"links" course as opposed to "parkland" course .. links courses are located on coasts normally with few trees and lots of bunkers (and maybe bushes) whereas "parkland" courses are inland with lots of trees (and usually narrow fairways)

I grew up on "links" courses in Ireland (so windy and such uneven fairways ... but fun :))
