Jan 16, 2007 15:29: Tony M changed "Level" from "PRO" to "Non-PRO"
Non-PRO (1): Stéphanie Soudais
When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.
How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:
An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)
A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).
Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.
When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.
* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

: No, I believe that means "fitting" in the sense of "suitable, appropriate", which is not at all the meaning here (= à sa taille) // Croyez moi, ce n'est pas le même sens, même si cela se rapproche... // C'est une nuance en anglais...

: No, that's not the sense of "to fit" here; // Chuis pas sûr... ça veut plutôt dire "ample", non ? // Désolé, en anglais ce n'est POINT ambigu ; seul problème, c'est la façon de l'exprimer en FR, selon l'utilisation...

COMMENT ONLY, NFG
If my understanding of the FR word is correct, it means, in general terms, that the dress or whatever suits the person wearing it. Now I'm sorry, but that is in NO WAY the same as saying that it fits them well — though of course, that might also be true.
It is perfectly possible for a garment to fit me perfectly, like a glove, but not to suit me at all; equally, it could be that some piece of clothing might not really be quite the right size for me, and yet somehow, surprisingly, it might still suit me.
« Même si ce n'est pas vraiment à sa taille, je le trouve seyant quand même » — would it be possible to say that in FR?
Normally, when talking about one garment for one person, we'd say « à ma taille », wouldn't we?
But here (and this is where the confusion comes in, since we don't know how these expressions are being used), it is more generally "when I choose a garment, the factors that are important to me are: ... b) that it fits (me) well
This involves lots of factors, as others have said; it may be to do with the availability in a range of sizes; also, that the garment is suitably scaled (baggy tracksuit / tailored jacket / clingy evening gown), and that it works well for people of all different shapes — for example, I have trouble finding shirts that fit me well, as my large neck means the sleeves are always too long for me, and the body too baggy...
So I think we are indeed talking about the "coupe" — but of course, different kinds of coupe are appropriate for different classes of garment; a close-fitting cut might be entirely appropriate for one type of garment, but not at all suitable for another.

: But it's more than just that! It could be baggy and wrinkled, yet terrifically comfortable!
