German term

Sockelbildung

German to English Medical Medical (general) hip replacement
This is for a translation of an article comparing monolithic versus modular, cement-free ceramic hip prostheses. Here is the sentence: "Insbesondere die Rate von 6 Frühlockerungen bei Pfanne und Schaft, aber auch der Wert von 25% Saumbildung im Bereich der Pfanne, 8% Pfannenabkippungen und 30% Sockelbildungen im Bereich der Prothesenspitze im Rahmen der Nachuntersuchung gaben Anlass zur Korrektur des bestehenden Prothesenkonzeptes."

I am grateful for any light that can be shed on "Sockelbildung".

pedestal formation

The degree of subsidence was also measured by changes in the vertical distance between the tip of the greater trochanter and the most proximal point on the implant; a change of more than 2 mm was considered to be evidence of subsidence (Fig. 1). ***Spot welds*** were defined as the presence of new bone formation bridging the gap between the endosteal surface and the surface of the implant. A ***bone pedestal*** was defined as a shelf of endosteal new bone, either partially or completely bridging the intramedullary canal, at the tip of the implant. Calcar remodelling was recorded as hypertrophie, atrophic or indifferent.

And I think your previous question must be "spot weld"

These are both classic signs of bone remodelling:

Signs of subsidence, radiolucent lines, endosteal bone formation (spot welds) and pedestal formation were used to assess fixation and stability of the stem according to Engh’s criteria.

Very nice pics too :-)

Of course - silly me - the radiolucent lines are your "Saumbildung".

socket formation

Deep infections occurred in 7 cases (0.5%). Loosening after a minimum of 5 years occurred in 15.3%. Of these the stem only was involved in 73.7%, stem and socket in 11.8% and the socket only in 14.5%.
