how do I do that, Johan? Please help.
Tina Vonhof (X) Jun 29, 2006:
Not a problem. I think Dutch to the core is also fine, I just thought that you might want to keep the word background in: a through and through Dutch background.
Johan Venter Jun 29, 2006:
Just ask one of the moderators to correct this for you
sparow (asker) Jun 29, 2006:
please forgive me I meant to select Tina's answer. I can't seem to get the hang of this thing. I actually used Dutch to the core in the end, but would have preferred Dutch through and through

ur-Dutch background

It is the German version of the same word, commonly used in English.

neutral Johan Venter : Did you mean this one? uro- or ur-: 1. Urine: uric. 2. Urinary tract: urology. www.dictionary.com //@Erik - skipped right over that one, so Andre may be on to something, but it is nowhere near as commonly used as oer- in Dutch

neutral Erik Boers : @ Johan: Why don't you mention the 3rd meaning? Ur- (pref.): Original; prototypical: ur-feminist; ur-language

Our ethnic counterparts have Dutch names, Dutch words, and look as Dutch as can be. Part of the explanation for this is that about 70% percent of the Dutch people marry each other, thanks to the Reformed schools and Calvin College.

Looking down from the dike on these reedlands with small lakes between them, there's a lot to appreciate. It is in essence as Dutch as can be.
