French term

mise en valeur

French to English Marketing Marketing
I know the definitions of "mise en valeur", but I can't seem to decide what works best here. I tried "embellishment", but I don't know if I like that. Does anybody have a better way of translating it for the following context:

Comme ce fut le cas pour le design, mais de façon encore plus marquée, rien ne semble plaire dans le descripteur du paquet A pour un grand nombre de personnes (un peu moins de 4 répondants sur 10).

Pour les autres, ce qui plaît principalement, c’est:
La mise en valeur du descripteur et notamment sa couleur argentée et le fait que la marque et le slogan soient soulignés.

Thanks in advance.

Discussion

Laura Miller (asker) Jun 3, 2006:
Prominence might work, but I don't know. They use "emplacement" to describe its location on the pack, and it seems like mise en valeur is being used to describe how the descriptor looks, and like you said, how it is emphasized. I feel like I have a word that would work on the tip of my tongue, but it just isn't coming to me. I have a friend who is a market researcher and I'm hoping to get her input since she puts together reports like this for a living. (I promise to award points asap). Thanks again for your help!
Laura Miller (asker) Jun 3, 2006:
Thank you everyone, I appreciate all of the thought you are putting into this. Here is my dilema however; "mise en valeur" is used several times throughout the text (which is a 100-slide Power Point presentation) in Excel files (embedded of course) as part of a list of attributes. So, there will be a list like this:
Sa mise en valeur
Sa couleur grise, argenté
Le fait que le texte soit souligné
Sa mise en valeur de façon globale
etc.
I've been trying to think of one word, or even a catch phrase that would sum up the idea of "emphasis placed on the descriptor" for these lists.

thanks
neutral Najib Aloui : it's not really "emphasis" , it's an effort to "give value" to lines and colors, make them stand out

but aren't highlight, emphasize, bring out, heighten, etc. synonyms? IMO it means to feature or bring out....

prestige

I am thinking along the lines of status symbols and enthusiasm for designer goods.

prominence

as a stand-alone item in a list I'd be more likely to say something like this and then for mise en valeur globale maybe the emphasis plaecd on the descriptor
