It's the 'fonctionnelle' bit that I'm looking for. The context is a list of teams with a Corporate Services dept (construction industry) - ie:
RH/paie
Achats
*Responsable Equipe Fonctionnelle*
I already have an 'operations' team section
Proposed translations (English)
4 +3 Operational Team Leader
4 +1 functional unit/team manager

Ok. thanks Akos. I think that 'Team Leader' would be good too without mentioning 'functional'...as the actual departments/services are listed next to it. I shouldn't really have declined your responses either as they are valid!

It is worth mentioning that "team" and "department" have vastly different connotations and implications and I really think that here they are talking of a team (equipe) and not a department (departement/secteur)
