German term

Müßiggänger

German to English Marketing Tourism & Travel
"Hier ist kein Platz für Müßiggänger und Pessimisten, wer auf unserer Terrasse sitzt atmet ein Stück Unbeschwertheit, die unsere Zeit immer noch bietet: ein kräftiges Frühstück, ein leichtes Menü wischendurch der Kaffeeplausch am Nachmittag mit echter Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte oder das gemütliche „Viertele“
zum Tagesausklang - lassen Sie sich von uns umsorgen! "

From marketing literature for a hotel/restaurant. LEO tells me that a "Mußiggänger" is a gentleman about town, so I don´t understand what the hotel has against them. Or is this not what it means?

Discussion

Terence Ajbro Mar 15, 2006:
The meaning is: You can't just sit here and do nothing or feel depressed.
Stephen Sadie Mar 15, 2006:
*z*wischendurch (!) , sounds like it's somewhere in Schwaben, Chris

loafers

or idlers and lazybones - according to Muret-Sanders. But I still don't get the point.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Thanks everyone. I expect Andrew´s explanation is right, though I´m still rather with Kim on not getting the point, maybe being myself more in sympathy with the layabouts. But “loafers” worked well for me."

layabouts

...as an alternative to 'idlers' or 'loafers'.

The next clause makes the point: "wer auf unserer Terrasse sitzt atmet ein Stück Unbeschwertheit"

The sort of clientele this establishment wants to attract are high-powered people taking a short break from their stressful routines. They are not targeting drifters, idlers, loafers or layabouts who are going to mope around the terrace, spreading gloom and despondency.
