German term

formflüssig

German to English Tech/Engineering Law: Patents, Trademarks, Copyright
From a patent for a central buffer coupling:

Does this mean the two parts "fit together snugly" - or something else altogether?

TIA!

there are a few google hits

I think formschlüssig (positively locked) means an irredeemable, secure connection while formflüssig is a tight (seamless) fit in terms of shape or contour. Perhaps "butt-joined"

3 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "I think you might be right Klaus - the ihk Frankfurt talsk of items being "kraft- und formflüssig" in one of very few google hits, so this distinction would make sense. Man lernt nie aus! "

Peer comment(s):

agree Ken Cox : Sounds quite likely. The only google hits (2) for 'formflüssig' are from texts from the same company and come from bilingual (EN/DE) brochures written in equally poor English and German (and by that I mean really poor).

Thanks Kenneth, if no typo, then a newly invented word.
