Entwurfsprozess / entwerfen

In a rather theoretical text about design research, the author writes about the "Entwurfsprozess im Design". Later on in the text, he uses terms such as "entwerfen, Entwerfbarkeit, Entwurfstätigkeit ...". I'm now looking for a good translation of this "entwerfen" (for obvious reasons I can't use design ...) .Could I for example use "conceptualize" and "conceptualization process in design"? Thanks for your comments!

Comment: "Ok, I surrender! After a lot of thinking about your comments, I decided to use "design process / design" Apparently it IS a problem of the German rather than the English. Thanks a lot to all of you for helping me with this question!"

drafting process / drafting
One day, while reading an article in the Jacksonville, Florida Times-Union about this matter, Mrs. Hoff decided to contact Annin's Vice President Norman Rivkees about providing a flag for soldiers captured or missing. Mr. Rivkees quickly adopted the idea, and turned to one of their advertising agencies to consider drafting a design.

conceptualization process
I agree with you, conceptualize seems to fit. First stages of the design.
Found this definition: What do we mean by "conceptualization"?: a process of thinking and organizing ideas that grows from the learning of facts and events to concepts to theory ...
You could also check this website on design process:

development process/develop
Am I missing something?
Note from asker:
No, I would agree, only that later on the auther writes: "Forschung durch Design ist eine Entwurfs- bzw. eine Entwicklungsdisziplin." So there I have the same problem again ... He also distinguishes between Entwurf and Entwicklung. |

creative, create, creation
a non-techy suggestion from a non-techy translation. prefer it to conceptualis(z)e, which sounds 'translated' to me. designs have to be created don't they?
