German term

ineinander greifend und aufeinander reagierend

German to English Art/Literary Art, Arts & Crafts, Painting
This is about an on-going exhibition of installation art, accommodated in a temporary toilet, portacabin, whatever. "Als eine Art „Ausstellung in progress“ dauert sie bis XX 2006. Während dieser Zeit werden die verschiedenen Arbeiten und Projekte nicht als aufeinander folgende Einzelpräsentationen, **sondern ineinander greifend und aufeinander reagierend** gezeigt, so dass sich die Ausstellung stets verändert."
for which I have:
"Until it ends at the end of June 2006, this “exhibition in progress” will display a variety of works and projects – not as a simple succession of separate exhibits, however, but as a group/series of interlocking works ... ###"

Can't think (yet) of a slick way of getting this across ... "interlocking" sounds a bit out of place here IMO
TIA

Discussion

Francis Lee (X) (asker) Nov 29, 2005:
Thanks, ladies. I in fact gave my customer about 37 different permutations and combinations such as "mutually integrating and interacting" ... (this being the only sort of context where you can plausibly use "integrating" instead of "integrated")
Francis Lee (X) (asker) Nov 24, 2005:
Thanks! Will grade tomorrow ...
BrigitteHilgner Nov 24, 2005:
So the new "project" becomes part of the existing "installation"? There will be a rather "close" relationship? In which case, "interconnecting" (or other suggestions) might not be strong enough?
Francis Lee (X) (asker) Nov 24, 2005:
More context: "Ab dem 12. Januar wird XX sein neuestes Projekt in die Installation von YY integrieren" (artists' names changed to protect the innocent), so they really are "interconnecting" and (something with "mutually"?) ...

ein Versuch - irgendwer muss ja anfangen ...
Peer comment(s):

agree Lori Dendy-Molz : sounds good - prefer "intertwining" to "overlapping"

Thank you! I agree - but I am not too sure how all this is to be handled in practice.
agree Annette Urbschat : I vote for overlapping as being more commonly used

Thank you! I think it's the context which makes the choice of a suitable word tricky.

interweaving and interacting

is another alternative - although I'm sure the interacting can be improved upon
