German term

kraftraubend

German to English Tech/Engineering Mechanics / Mech Engineering Slogan
I can't seem to find a decent translation for "kraftraubend" (or "kraftsparend", for that matter, but I'll post that in a separate question).

For example: A certain part of a construction machine "gleitet auf der Oberfläche und setzt dem Boden keinen *kraftraubenden* Widerstand entgegen".

A posting in LEO's forum suggests "strenuous", but I don't like that at all!

Help is much appreciated!

Ulrike Kraemer (asker) Oct 6, 2005:
@David: Sorry for putting you on the wrong track. I thought my question was (relatively) clear, but apparently it was not. (I've had a hard week [kraftraubend!].)
The machinery in question is used for soil improvement (see also my question regarding "kraftsparend").
Ulrike Kraemer (asker) Oct 6, 2005:
@David: It's a self-propelled machine. The part in question glides on the surface instead of being pulled through the soil in a "kraftraubende" manner.

PS If you go for 'energy efficient' on Q1153982 (and it's the current leader with 3 peer agrees) you might like to consider "energy sapping" which also googles well:

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "As Hermann said, this was a tough one... In the end, I decided to use "power-sapping" because it seems to fit best into the overall context. The points go to you, Andrew, because you pointed me in the right direction. Thank you. Thanks to all of you for trying to help me with this."

cheers - a tough one ;-)
agree Trudy Peters : exerts no energy-wasting resistance on the soil/ground

thanks Trudy - maybe also puts no energy-wasting pressure on the ground
neutral Michele Fauble : Strictly speaking, the energy wouldn't be "wasted", since it would be used to overcome the resistance.

that makes work hard

I'm suspecting it's one of those small tillers that are advertised
as easy to run even for you-know-who???
Have you looked at http://mantisgardentools.com/whybest.asp

Of course, there's more praise than criticism (although Mantis is comparing theirs) - but you'll see the jaunty tone
