German term
kraftraubend
German to English
Tech/Engineering
Mechanics / Mech Engineering

I can't seem to find a decent translation for "kraftraubend" (or "kraftsparend", for that matter, but I'll post that in a separate question).
For example: A certain part of a construction machine "gleitet auf der Oberfläche und setzt dem Boden keinen *kraftraubenden* Widerstand entgegen".
A posting in LEO's forum suggests "strenuous", but I don't like that at all!
Help is much appreciated!

Comment: "As Hermann said, this was a tough one... In the end, I decided to use "power-sapping" because it seems to fit best into the overall context. The points go to you, Andrew, because you pointed me in the right direction. Thank you.
Thanks to all of you for trying to help me with this."

: Yeah, I would use... resistance that costs energy.

thanks Trudy - maybe also puts no energy-wasting pressure on the ground

: Strictly speaking, the energy wouldn't be "wasted", since it would be used to overcome the resistance.

that makes work hard
I'm suspecting it's one of those small tillers that are advertised
as easy to run even for you-know-who???
Have you looked at http://mantisgardentools.com/whybest.asp
or http://www.hondapowerequipment.com/tilmin.asp?
Of course, there's more praise than criticism (although Mantis is comparing theirs) - but you'll see the jaunty tone

Discussion
The machinery in question is used for soil improvement (see also my question regarding "kraftsparend").
