Hirchsprungs Disease is a rare condition in which the nerves controlling the intestine do not form properly.

In mild cases this just affects the lower bowel and patients improve after surgery to remove the affected part.

agree Drunya : Good job, Jack! By the way, Hirschsprung's is one of the most commonly misspelt names in medical wrting, as reported in The Lancet several years ago. Poor guy. All 'cause he's Danish :-)//Checked w/dictionaries - And I thought your name comes from dough!

Thank you. I sympathise with him. My own name is often misspelt: Doherty, Docherty, Dowty; or mispronounced - I don't mind Duffty too much, but I'm not so keen on Dotty or Dirty.

Hirschsprung's disease is a rare disorder of the bowel - most commonly the large bowel (colon). Ganglion cells which control the bowel's rhythmic contractions are missing....
