"Romping" is suggested, but that has a sexual connotation. "Frolicking" is just being generally happy, but I'm looking for the English word for innocent, playful fake fighting.

Should obviously have said dictionary and thesaurus, my mistake - you need context to know what to pick, that's the point. Anyhow, not trying to spark off a massive debate here, those asking for context were merely trying to assist.

why not take your English definition and ask on the English monolingual site? no one can know what a definite term would be without knowing definitely how it's used. translation hardly goes in 'absolutes', especially not with terms like this.

A dictionary exercise? Hardly. I've asked several native English people and they didn't know what it would be. This is kind of my last resort. I've got dictionaries right here. But Mrs. Otten shows exactly the problem I have: "Playing about"?

So it's nothing other than a dictionary exercise in other words. Notreally the purpose of this site. Everything has context - as you can see below there are various options. Words don't function in a vacumn but anyhow tks for responding.

as you can see from the many dictionary translations listed below, what it actually means will ultimately depend on how it's used. no one has provided an 'incorrect' answer since they are all possible depending on context.

to lark (about) / rollick / skylark

Well, if you don't like 'frolic' which is also sometimes translated by 'stoeien', why not go with 'to lark (about)': pret maken, streken uithalen, or 'to rollick': dartelen, stoeien, zwieren, pret maken, or even 'to skylark': stoeien, grappen uithalen, keet schoppen?
