Japanese term
箱抜
Japanese to English
Tech/Engineering
Construction / Civil Engineering
This term appears in a document explaining foundation work. 「埋込ベースの箱抜位置を図面と照合し、アンカー箱抜、接地線立上位置および数を確認してからコンクリートを打設する。」
I am not familiar with construction work and I have no idea what 箱抜 means. Any suggestions?

Block out Box
Hi Mikiko,
I found the process you are referring to described as 'blocking out'. I'm not sure if there is a 定訳 for the actual "box", but I guess you could refer to it as a "box for blocking out", or "block out box".
Others may have better suggestions...HTH ;-)
"Block out"
To install a box or barrier within a foundation wall to prevent the concrete from entering an area. For example, foundation walls are sometimes "blocked" in order for mechanical pipes to pass through the wall, to install a crawl space door, and to depress the concrete at a garage door location.

: You looked at the question with Western encoding, and the characters got garbled. Indeed, it looks like two quotation marks and a small 2, but you have to look with Shift-JIS encoding to see the Japanese text.

: " " wouldn't be square inches in English - this question is Japanese to English.

void, box-out, form for void, blockout
depending on the context.
I think 'void' or 'form for void' is suitable for this context.
