Report from  Claudia Ait-Touati
It started as a cloudy, sombre Brisbane day. At least for translators wanting to have a picnic. The farmers were most delighted to see the threatening clouds! However, the sunshine all the kids brought along and the cheerfulness of 5 passionate professionals (and family) cleared the sky at once.
Everyone (gifted with the gap and happy to improve every field of the profession) came up with issues that need to be addressed, great ideas, funny anecdotes and the latest novelties of translatorland.
The two main issues were the improvement of test formats by NAATI and naturally the use of CAT tools.
But mostly it was just a fun day out for the whole family and it was great to get to know some of our colleagues a bit better. It was a fantastic day with only one downside: it was way too short!

Report from  Sam Berner
It was a great day, and meeting with old friends always adds to the pleasure. Apart from worrying about interpreter tests and CAT tools we also talked books, music, pregnancies (!!), and ate some really wunderbar food prepared by culinary experts - of which I wasn't one. The photo Claudia attached was of course before the football landed in the middle and her absolutely magical daughter decided that hands are what we use to squash strawbarries :-) Thank you, Maurite, for the absolutely hilarious stories. Oh, yes, since all the kids actually slept that night, we are looking forward to having POWOWS more often, as a tranquilizing tool ;-)
