Report from  Ciprian Dumea
This PowWow provided us with an excellent opportunity to talk, know one another better and exchange ideas. Communication knew a smooth flow as data was exchanged among the participants several days prior to the actual meeting and as most of us knew one another at least as ProZ voices :-).

The main subject of our encounter was the creation of a Professional Translators Association, as the translational territory of Romania is rather scarred with dissention than marked by consensus, the ProZ community being one of the few small bubbles of comfortable unity. As this state of affairs is mainly due to a lack of communication between translation professionals, we decided to try and unite literary translators, technical translators, translation companies and professors towards the common goal of a good, decent life through translation.

The two-day encounter went as quickly as a dream and as smoothly as a finely tuned Swiss clock. We were able to convene upon the creation of the Association, upon a few crucial points relative to the statutes of the said Association and upon some precise goals: preserve quality in translation, promote dialogue between translators and stand united in front of todays challenges, whatever their nature. We reached the conclusion that we are a community, that wherever our main interests may lie in our particular field of specialization, our best interest is to be together, think together and act together.

This is not to say that our encounter lacked fun on the contrary; spirits had been very high all around, jokes were fired and fired upon (yes, of the kind you try to tell a non-translator friend and who suddenly has a look similar to that of Terry Pratchetts Librarian when peeling a banana) and half the night went down quite [British quite] cheerfully on the terrace of the bar Chios . Fortunately, the (then) sober Florin and his wonderful car ferried us all to our resting places :-).

Yup a PowWow to be remembered...
