Having to ride a motor boat in the middle of a storm, at night, to get on a huge ship off shore, where a crew member had passed away. That was no doubt my worst nightmare as a sworn translator ever.

A very specific text with insufficient or no context and a tight deadline, written by somebody who never thought that it would have to be translated by a non-native of their language, or even to be relatively understandable for an unprepared reader. E.g. extracts from Norwegian hospital's patient records written by different doctors (luckily not by hand), with all kinds of abbreviations and medical puzzles. A very specific text with insufficient or no context and a tight deadline, written by somebody who never thought that it would have to be translated by a non-native of their language, or even to be relatively understandable for an unprepared reader. E.g. extracts from Norwegian hospital's patient records written by different doctors (luckily not by hand), with all kinds of abbreviations and medical puzzles. It also sucks to refuse one of two equally paying jobs offered with the same deadline from two stable customers. Why do they alwasy decide to send stuff at the same time? I wouldn't call those nightmares, though, just some unpleasant parts of the job. I can't recall any job-related bad dreams so far... ▲ Collapse

Revisers does not mean all revisers. When I choose the reviser, it's excellent. But, unfortunately, 90% of the time revisers transform an excellent translation in trash.
