Hello everybody. I´d like to know if there's some Open Source Localization software. As far as I know, this type of software -the Open Source versions- are in development, and they are just that.. projects that have not been completed yet. Please, if you do know about some Localization Open Source Software that is currently running and working, let me know. I´d be grateful to all of you... See more Hello everybody. I'm sure there is, but localisation is about more than just translation, and you have to figure out how much of the non-translation components your current tools and methodologies can handle. For example, you can use OmegaT for the translation of documents and Java language files, but you can't use it for project management, even though project management certainly is part of a localisation effort. So I guess what you might want to do is to first think of what it is that you want, and then ask if there are opensource programs that do those things. | | | Samuel Murray Netherlands Local time: 15:55 Member (2006) English to Afrikaans + ...

I wrote PO TRADOS interfaces (because I could not understand, how such a project can be done without the benefit of a translation memory). I still translate PO files using Wordfast, because I like Wordfast's TM capabilities. But I work for the company that makes Pootle, and it is part of my job to know what it does and figure out how it can be better. So any questions about Pootle... let them come. | |

Shamelessly promoting my linklist... :-) | Sep 16, 2007 |
Hi Pamela, It really depends on what you mean by localisation and what exactly you want the tools to do. Do you need something that provides WYSIWYG GUI editing? Or some filters and converters? Or an editor for a particular format? You can find a fairly comprehensive list of open-source tools related to translation and localisation here: www.martinwunderlich.com/foss-links.htm Мaybe it's a starting point...
