Source text - English In 1952, at the first World Humanist Congress, the founders of IHEU agreed a statement of the fundamental principles of modern Humanism. They called it “The Amsterdam Declaration”.
The Amsterdam Declaration of 1952 was a child of its time. For example, it was set in the world of great power politics and the Cold War, and it asserted that “humanists have confidence that the present crisis can be surmounted”.
As befits the nature of Humanism — friendly to evolution, anathema to dogma — the statement was updated in 2002. The 50th anniversary World Humanist Congress in 2002, again meeting in the Netherlands, unanimously passed a resolution known as “The Amsterdam Declaration 2002”. Following the Congress, this updated declaration was adopted unanimously by the IHEU General Assembly, and thus became the official defining statement of World Humanism.

Humanism is the outcome of a long tradition of free thought that has inspired many of the world’s great thinkers and creative artists and gave rise to science itself.
The fundamentals of modern Humanism are as follows:
1.Humanism is ethical. It affirms the worth, dignity and autonomy of the individual and the right of every human being to the greatest possible freedom compatible with the rights of others. Humanists have a duty of care to all of humanity including future generations. Humanists believe that morality is an intrinsic part of human nature based on understanding and a concern for others, needing no external sanction.
2.Humanism is rational.It seeks to use science creatively, not destructively. Humanists believe that the solutions to the world’s problems lie in human thought and action rather than divine intervention. Humanism advocates the application of the methods of science and free inquiry to the problems of human welfare. But Humanists also believe that the application of science and technology must be tempered by human values. Science gives us the means but human values must propose the ends.
3.Humanism supports democracy and human rights.Humanism aims at the fullest possible development of every human being. It holds that democracy and human development are matters of right. The principles of democracy and human rights can be applied to many human relationships and are not restricted to methods of government.
4.Humanism insists that personal liberty must be combined with social responsibility. Humanism ventures to build a world on the idea of the free person responsible to society, and recognises our dependence on and responsibility for the natural world. Humanism is undogmatic, imposing no creed upon its adherents. It is thus committed to education free from indoctrination.
5.Humanism is a response to the widespread demand for an alternative to dogmatic religion. The world’s major religions claim to be based on revelations fixed for all time, and many seek to impose their world-views on all of humanity. Humanism recognises that reliable knowledge of the world and ourselves arises through a continuing process of observation, evaluation and revision.
6.Humanism values artistic creativity and imagination and recognises the transforming power of art. Humanism affirms the importance of literature, music, and the visual and performing arts for personal development and fulfilment.
7.Humanism is a lifestance aiming at the maximum possible fulfilment through the cultivation of ethical and creative living and offers an ethical and rational means of addressing the challenges of our times. Humanism can be a way of life for everyone everywhere.
Our primary task is to make human beings aware in the simplest terms of what Humanism can mean to them and what it commits them to. By utilising free inquiry, the power of science and creative imagination for the furtherance of peace and in the service of compassion, we have confidence that we have the means to solve the problems that confront us all. We call upon all who share this conviction to associate themselves with us in this endeavour.

Translation - Persian (Farsi) در سال 1952 و در اولین کنگره جهانی هیومنیست پایه گذاران اتحادیه جهانی هیومنیست و اخلاقی بر سر تدوین بیانیه اصول هیومنیسم مدرن به توافق رسیدند و آن را “بیانیه آمستردام” نامگذاری کردند.
بیانیه آمستردام 1952 استثنایی در زمان خود بود. به عنوان مثال در دنیای سیاست قدرتهای بزرگ و جنگ سرد تدوین شد و بر این باور مصر بود که “هیومنیست ها یا انسان باوران معتقدند که بحران های کنونی قابل رفع میباشند.”
به فراخور ذات هیومنیسم که موافق پیشرفت تدریجی و مخالف خرافه است، این بیانیه در سال 2002 به روز گردید. در پی توافق همه جانبه در پنجاهمین سالگرد کنگره جهانی هیومنیست در هلند و در سال 2002 بیانیه به روز شده به عنوان “بیانیه 2002 آمستردام” معرفی گردید. پس از این کنگره، این بیانیه متفق الرای توسط شورای عمومی پذیرفته و بنابر این به عنوان بیانیه معرف هیومنیسم جهانی قرار گرفت.

هیومنیسم پیامد سنتی طولانی از تفکر آزاد که الهام بخش متفکران و هنرمندان خلاق بسیاری در سرتاسر دنیا بوده و به رشد و پویایی علم کمک شایانی کرده است.
اصول پایه ای هیومنیسم مدرن به شرح زیر میباشند:
۱.هیومنیسم اخلاقی ست.هیومنیسم ارزش، شان و خودمختاری فرد را تصدیق نموده و به عنوان حقوق مسلم هر انسانی در آزادترین شرایط ممکن در چهارچوب حقوق دیگران میداند. هیومنیست ها وظیفه ای در محافظت از همنوعان خود و خصوصا نسلهای آینده دارند. آنها معتقدند که اخلاقیات بر طبق درک و توجه به دیگری بنیان شده در ذات آدمی ست و نیازی به عامل خارجی ندارد.
۲.هیومنیسم منطقی ست.
این دیدگاه همواره در تلاش است تا از علم خلاقانه و سازنده استفاده نماید. هیومنیست ها معتقدند که مشکلات جهان ریشه در افکار و عملکرد انسان و ارتباطی با دخالت الهی ندارد. هیومنیسم طرفدار بهره گیری از روشهای علمی و جستار آزادانه در مشکلات رفاه بشر میباشد اما هیومنیست ها معتقدند که این بهره گیری از علم و تکنولوژی باید منطبق با ارزشهای انسانی باشد. علم ابزار لازم را در اختیار ما قرار میدهد اما ارزشهای انسانی باید در اهداف لحاظ گردند.
۳.هیومنیسم دموکراسی و حقوق بشر را حمایت میکند.
هیومنیسم بالاترین سطح ممکن پیشرفت هر انسانی را مدنظر قرار میدهد و معتقد است که دموکراسی و پیشرفت انسانی جز حقوق فردی به شمار میروند. اصول دموکراسی و حقوق بشر میتوانند در بسیاری از روابط انسانی به کار گرفته شده و محدود به نوع حکومت نمی باشند.
۴.هیومنیسم مصر است که آزادی فردی باید توام با مسئولیت اجتماعی باشد.
هیومنیسم در صدد بنیان جهانی است که انسان آزاد و با حس مسئولیت در جامعه بوده و استقلال فردی را در دنیای طبیعی به رسمیت میشناسد. هیومنیسم به دور از هرگونه خرافات بوده و هیچ عقیده ای را به رهروانش تحمیل نمی نماید. بنابراین کاملا ملزم به آموزش بدون تلقین است.
۵.هیومنیسم پاسخی برای تقاضای روزافزون بدیل مذهب آمیخته با خرافه میباشد.
اغلب مذاهب بزرگ دنیا ادعا میکنند که براساس وحی بوده که تا ابد ثابت خواهد ماند و بسیاری درصدد هستند تا دیدگاه دنیوی خود را بر تمام بشر تحمیل نمایند. هیومنیسم معتقد است که دانش قابل اتکا از دنیای پیرامون و خودمان تنها از طریق روند ممتد مشاهده ارزیابی و بازبینی به دست می آید.
۶.هیومنیسم آثار هنری و تجسمی خلاقانه را ارج می نهد.
و قدرت خارق العاده هنر را به رسمیت میشناسد. انسان باوری اهمیت ادبیات موسیقی و هنرهای بصری و اجرایی را برای رشد و تعالی فردی همواره مدنظر قرار داده است.
۷.هیومنیسم رویکردی از زندگیست که در تلاش به نیل والاترین موفقیت های ممکن
از طریق تبیین فضایل اخلاقی و خلاقانه بوده و ابزاری منطقی و تایید شده را برای مواجهه با مشکلات موجود ارایه میدهد. هیومنیسم میتواند طریقه ای از زندگی برای هر کس در هر کجا باشد.
هدف اولیه ما آگاهی بخشی بشر با ساده ترین اصطلاحات است تا با مفاهیم و ملزومات هیومنیسم یا انسان باوری آشنا گردند. با استفاده از جستار آزادانه. قدرت علم و تجسم خلاقانه برای اشاعه صلح و در خدمت دگر دوستی. ما مطمئنم که میتوانیم تمام مصائب بر سر راه را از میان برداریم. از اینرو تمامی کسانی که بر این باورند، را در تلاش به رسیدن به این مهم فرا میخوانیم.
