1. Connect the System Controller board to an ASCII terminal.
2. Switch on the power to the ASCII terminal.
3. Set up the terminal. Set the ASCII terminal to the same baud rate as the serial port.
Default serial port settings for the System Controller board:
• 9600 8N1 : 9600 baud
• 8 data bits
• No parity
• 1 stop bit
This is a console connection, therefore log messages are output via the serial connection.
Cabling the System Controller Board
The System Controller board has two ports: the serial (RS-232) port and the Ethernet (network) port. A terminal may be connected to the system controller using either of these ports.
Powering On the Hardware
Follow the steps for hardware power-on detailed and illustrated in the installation guide for your system:
• For the Serv-Tech Apex 5600/9820/9840 systems, proceed as follows:
o Switch on the terminal console.
o Switch on the redundant transfer switches (RTS).
o Switch on the AC input boxes.
o Move the key switch for the Frame Manager to the “on” position.
o For the Serv-Tech Apex 4580 system, proceed as follows:
o Switch on the terminal console.
o Switch on the power supply switches.
How To Access a Domain Shell via the Serial Port
You can connect to one of three types of devices via the serial port:
• ASCII terminal (terminal setting for the serial is 9600 8N1)
• Network terminal server (NTS)
• Workstation
The procedure differs for each type of device:
1. If you are connected to:
• The serial port of an ASCII terminal - the system controller main menu will be displayed once the serial port connection has been made.
• The serial port of a network terminal server (NTS) - a menu of various servers to which you can connect will be displayed. Select the appropriate server. Once you have connected to the appropriate server, the system controller main menu will be displayed.

Zapínanie hardvéru
Pri zapínaní hardvéru dodržiavajte postup, ktorý je podrobne popísaný a zobrazený v inštalačnej príručke systému:
• Pri systémoch Serv-Tech Apex 5600/9820/9840 postupujte takto:
o Zapnite konzolu terminálu.
o Zapnite prepínače redundantného prenosu (RTS).
o Zapnite vstupné polia striedavého prúdu.
o Hlavný prepínač pre správcu rámcov nastavte do polohy „on“ (zapnutý).
o Pri systémoch Serv-Tech Apex 4580 postupujte takto:
o Zapnite konzolu terminálu.
o Zapnite prepínače zdroja napätia.
Ako sa dostanete do prostredia domény cez sériový port
Cez sériový port sa môžete pripojiť k jednému z týchto troch typov zariadení:
• k terminálu ASCII (nastavenie terminálu pre sériový port je 9600 8N1),
• k sieťovému terminálovému serveru (NTS),
• k pracovnej stanici.
Pri každom type zariadenia je iný postup:
1. Ak ste pripojení k:
• sériovému portu na termináli ASCII – po pripojení k sériovému portu sa zobrazí hlavná ponuka radiča systému;
• sériovému portu sieťového terminálového servera (NTS) – zobrazí sa ponúka rôznych serverov, ku ktorým sa môžete pripojiť. Vyberte príslušný server. Po pripojení k príslušnému serveru sa zobrazí hlavná ponuka radiča systému.
