Bio
Translation from Hungarian, Slovak, Czech to English and English, Slovak, Czech into Hungarian. Website info, business, technical, medical, legal, financial, educational, World Bank, EBRD, etc.

Istvan (Stefan, Steven): born in Kosice (Kassa, Kaschau, Cassovia) Slovakia in a multilingual family, speaking Hungarian, Slovak, Czech and German.
Studied Hungarian, Slovak, Russian and German languages at school and general subjects in Hungarian and Slovak languages for 9 years.
Secondary school leaving: "A" level exam at the age of 19 in Hungarian, English, Russian, Mathematics, and History.
MA degree - teacher of English and Russian language and literature - 1975, from the largest university in Hungary: Roland (Lorand) Eotvos University (ELTE, Budapest)

I also have Oxford Higher Certificate in English (with Distinction) and London Chamber of Commerce and Industry English for Business 3rd level Certificate. These prove that I may be considered as a native user of English.

Why I undertake so many languages? Explanation: Mother was Slovak, Father was Hungarian and one Grandpa was German. I attended Hungarian instruction language schools for 16 years. At primary school the languages of instruction were Hungarian, Slovak and Czech, including Hungarian, Slovak and Czech language and literature.

In this way, from my early childhood, I learned 3-4 languages at the same time and it is quite normal for me to exchange from one to other.
I understand everything in Slovak, Czech, Russian and other Slavic languages, but I do not write in these.
I write in Hungarian and English so these are the TWO LANGUAGES I undertake GUARANTEE for as far as grammar and style is concerned.

I strongly believe that it is not just translation experience that matters. All the things that you write throughout your life form your grammar, your style, your scope of knowledge, interests, or in a new psychological concept: the INTERFACES you develop within this world. INTERFACES between people, living creatures and the Earth and World as the whole... This is why I include a list of my selected writings, not just translations... We cannot be that business-like! I hope you agree that we are not just money making translation machines.

By the way, I get more and more convinced that an agglutinatiive languages like Hungarian, with its variety of word order in a sentence and words, expressions, cannot be translated with the aid of MACHINE TRANSLATION SOFTWARE (like Google Translate). We translate whole texts, not just parts broken to sentence fragments. I can prove you this in a few minutes... Why would we need writers then? :-)
I think it is very sad that price increasingly prevails over quality in our world. Added value is getting very scarce... The so-called Trados wordcount spoils our industry...
