Remain about the same Jun 9, 2020

And if it doesn't work out that way, at least I wasn't being too optimistic or pessimistic

I cannot predict Jun 9, 2020

Strange enough I was busy during the lock down, now I have nothing to do, but this is not strange, effect of this big crisis cannot be immediate, so I do not predict I just hope to have enough work for living, or better remain about the same.

Grow Jun 9, 2020

My business still has where to grow, so I'm quite optimistic.

Other Jun 9, 2020

In this climate, I'm not making any predictions. There are far too many variables in play. Anyway, so far:

January: good
February: very good
March: regular
April: regular
May: terrible
June: will be excellent. I’m fully booked until the end of the month with two long projects and several small ones…

Decline Jun 9, 2020

My last good month was March, since when I have had next to no work. Whilst I can't be certain I suspect that the coronavirus is the cause, though Brexit may also be a factor.

I got two new clients Jun 9, 2020

I was actually leaving my marketing side on sleep mode, but then, from March to May I got two new clients.

At The Moment, An Unknown Quantity... Jun 9, 2020

...but I have gotten laid off, I hope only temporarily, from a project that was supposed to entail the translation of multiple historical romances from Spanish.

It has come to my attention that sales of original works have been way down during the pandemic, so their authors seem to have taken a conservative attitude about going to the expense of a translation (a luxury for many of them, or so it would seem).

With some persistence, we surely will make it--one way or another Jun 9, 2020

They optimistically forecast many crises in 2020--from Yellowstone, distant working/learning, livestock forced vax, digitizing, and 'pandemics' to comets, moral lapses, and other disasters. Show must go on!

And this is going to be real fun--or at least distracting from the routine

Other Jun 10, 2020

Under the current circumstances (COVID-19, recession, climate change) I'm not going to make any predictions. Since it's not clear what may happen next month, or even next week, I'm not thinking about the rest of the year.

It will grow Jun 10, 2020

Let's think positively. After the strorm, better times must come. After months of a slow market, the afterwave must be positive.

Niche is the key Jun 13, 2020

Many of my clients stopped sending work. Then, an interesting trend developed: those able to adapt to this "new normality" thing started sending related material to translate. So I had to recycle myself to COVID-19-related translations. And this is working!

This way, I am managing to stay afloat, in the "more or less the same" option.

As I had already experienced in the past: finding a niche and keeping it is the key.

due to the crisis translation business is very uncertain Jun 14, 2020

Since the Coronavirus started translation business became vers slow and decreasing. Less and less clients do need translations. Most demands do not come from Europe, but from India, Korea, china, etc.

The problem is if a client needs a translation he wants that the translator signs an NDA . I have the impression that clients do trust us tranlator less and less and want to prescribe their conditions. This is also the reason why business is decreasing and uncertain.
