I’m quite happy with my old wired keyboard and mouse. I did try a wireless mouse some time ago, due to the insistence of my daughter and of my computer technician, but one day the mouse got frozen and I lost everything I had not saved. Needless to say that I went back to my good and reliable wired mouse…

I've tried every possible combination: mouse wired, keyboard not (on my new desktop) and vice versa and both of them wired and both of them wireless on my older computer. I've tried every possible combination: mouse wired, keyboard not (on my new desktop) and vice versa and both of them wired and both of them wireless on my older computer. After going fully wireless and constantly worrying that something would stop working in the middle of a rush job, I went back to the wires. On the new computer, I get a warning when the mouse battery is low.

The keyboard on my new computer is wired because it's the expensive mechanical type. I went through a period of testing about 5 keyboards in a row until I found the one that was juuuust right. I discovered that I make far fewer typing mistakes with a mechanical keyboard and key caps with a slight dip on the top to keep my fingers from sliding off. And if it's wired, I know it will never stop working if the battery dies.

I absolutely adore the new flat/foldable wireless mouse on my laptop (tried to attach photos but wasn't successful).

Wireless Jun 15, 2019

There are enough cables/wires around me that I have to live with and cannot exclude, so I try to keep their number down to the minimum...

Keyboard built into the laptop and I have a wired mouse on the left and a wireless ergonomic mouse on the right. I started out with just the wired non-ergonomic mouse, but a bout of tendonitis prompted me to move it to the left to give my right hand a rest. Then I got the ergonomic one thinking my left hand might seize up too like the right. I kind of alternate between the two and seem to be keeping tendonitis and RSI at bay this way.

My keyboard will stay wired because the cable doesn't get in the way at all. Presently I'm using a wired mouse, but the cable is constantly getting in the way. Therefore, I will "install" the wireless mouse this weekend. This will reduce the "cable salad" by one.

For my working PCs, I prefer to use a wired mouse and keyboard. I only use a wireless mouse and keyboard for the PC connected to the television in my bedroom, so that I don't have to get out of bed to browse or change volume settings, or whatever.

I care about layout and feel Jun 15, 2019

Your keyboard and/or mouse: wired or wireless?

My keyboard is wireless, simply because it has a better key layout than the wired versions of the same series. I used to have a wired keyboard from the same manufacturer, but they stopped making that model, and I had neglected to buy 20 of them before stocks ran out (they tended to last no more than 3 months, so perhaps that's why the model was pulled). My current keyboard comes in a set with a wireless mouse, but the mouse is too small to my liking. This keyboard has one flaw: there is are no LEDs for caps lock and number lock.

I do have a favourite mouse, but the build quality is dodgy (out of every two that you buy, one won't work). I'm currently experimenting with a different mouse, although I'm not entirely happy with its middle button: often, when I try to scroll, I end up middle-clicking (so I'm using an AHK script to disable middle-clicking). It does scroll like a dream, though. It's a wired mouse, but that's simply because, well, this model was wired.

I don't care too much about wired vs non-wired. I care about the keyboard layout and the shape of the mouse (and its ease of clicking, and whether it scrolls well). Also, if wired, then they must have long cables. I want to pay no more than €20 for a keyboard, no more than €20 for a mouse (in fact, €10 is preferable), and no more than €20-€30 for headphones.

I do have bad experiences with a lot of wireless mice, in that when the connection to the computer is dropped, you can't do anything but either wait or reboot. Sometimes, the connection between my keyboard and the computer is lost for a while, but banging the keyboard against the desk usually fixes that. I find that wireless mice often run out of battery a lot faster than wireless keyboards (I keep forgetting to switch them off manually).

The only annoying thing as that there is no warning when the mouse is going to stop working as the battery needs recharging. The mouse can't be used while recharging, but the keyboard can.

I cannot afford to run out of batteries precisely when a power cut triggers the generator, a 800-mbar depression is forecast, rain is starting to seep through the walls of my house and a scary neighbour wants to borrow my chain saw.

I've had the same 2,000-key Polaroid keyboard for maybe 15 years, PS/2 connector heeha. Due to the obsolete driver, some feature keys no longer work, but I don't use them anyway. The key characters are not silk-screened but likely embedded into the plastic. They are still perfect via periodic cleaning and maintenance, but keys most used are shinier.
Mouse-wise, I only use very simple branded wired optical scrolling mouses, with perfect front-to-back symmetry to use it with my left hand. They last up two 3 years usually. Teflon pads underneath are the first components to fail/disappear.

Two additional cables at the back of the tower unit don't add significant dust-collecting and octopus-induced properties to the mess there.

But I can relate to the benefits of wireless keyboard/mouse to control a box under the TV while carelessly slouched on the couch.

Wireless mouse, wired keyboard Jun 15, 2019

My wireless mouse fell and broke, so I had to temporarily use an old wired mouse. I hated dragging that wire around with it. The keyboard doesn't move, so there is no reason (for me) to have it wired.

Found wireless annoying with no use whatsoever. Purchased and stocked several of the wired keyboards to my liking for future use.

I have found wireless keyboard and mouse to be unreliable and act weirdly sometimes. Therefore I prefer the wired versions.
