As I said yesterday, in 1986, when I was recruited by an EU institution as contract staff I had a mentor for 1 year and later on I trained and mentored several new colleagues. I enjoy sharing with others what I've learned over the years as a way of giving back what has given me almost 40 years of career satisfaction…

No, but I have been approached to be a mentor and declined.

Only in the sense that I brought my son and daughter-in-law into this profession and give them a hand now and again.

3 times for my professional order Jun 14, 2019

I'm a certified member of the OTTIAQ and students or young translators who want to become members can choose to be mentored. It's a 6 month process during which time the translator submits me 5000 translated words per month. I choose 1000, review the translations and discuss them with the translator. Each month, I submit a report to the organization about my observations and the translator's progress. I'm at my 3rd time now. It's very rewarding.

Not per se, but I'm usually willing to give pointers or lend a helping hand when asked.

Depending on the definition/accent, I've been each of them)

I consider senior colleagues, specialists, managers, and Team Leaders as mentors too. Sometimes just hearing or seeing is enough to learn something new and useful. Moreover, I use other people and their reason-effect-solution-consequence results as examples, learning how it may come out and why.

Shortly, if one uses his mistakes to improve himself, he will achieve the goals for sure: Self-learning/internalization is the key.
