I don't use CAT tools: much of my work doesn't lend itself too well to it.

Or rarely. As I understand it, every time I translate something using a TM,it updates itself when I clean up the draft, so I don't really have to "update" the TM at all. And if I happen to translate something a different way in a different document or context, the TM usually presents the choices available when the term comes up again, so that I can choose the one I prefer.

For me, the problems arise when the customer sends a new version of a document while I'm in the middle of translating it. A load of draft segments then never get finalised but remain in the memory.

As Neil says, the TM updates itself.
Sometimes when making a search in the TM I may find something that sneaked in by mistake, maybe when I used the wrong memory for a file, so I delete it.

I would like to know why the latest version of Studio recommended upgrading the memories, with the result that the new memory is much larger than it was before.
For this reason I have only upgraded a couple and am continuing to work with the "old" version of the others, without any pr

I spend quite a few times updating my TMs and TBs, meaning:
1. Erasing ALL tags
2. Erasing all repeated segments
3. Erasing all one or two word segments, which are already in the TB
4. Erasing all segments with numbers only, symbols only, URLs, e-mails, addresses
5. Erasing all segments where the original text and target text are identical
6. Excluding double spaces, spaces before punctuation, useless symbols, codes...

This operation reduces significantly the size of your TMs, the time spent by the CAT searching, the space used in the HD, the number of occurrences on the right-side pane, which makes it a lot easier and faster to locate what you need, and icreases the efficiency of the "Muses".

So it's not a waste of time to do it. It's a waste of lots of time NOT to do it.
