I was wondering what the standard practice is for this, for example, would Le Haras du Cheval Blanc be: The White Horse Stud, The Cheval Blanc Stud, Le Cheval Blanc Stud,or would you just keep the French name in tact? Is there an accepted method or does it depend on the agency/company?

Always keep original version Mar 30, 2012

Always keep original version.
In general, translate the text in brackets.

That's a straightforward answer! Mar 30, 2012

That would be my instinct. But what if you are proofing a text and the names have already been translated, would you leave them as they are or should you change them back?

Brand Names vs Organizations Mar 30, 2012

My clients usually ask me not to translate brand names, but they always require the translation of organizations in brackets.

Depends Mar 31, 2012

on whether the establishment has a translated name - eg youwould never dream of calling it the Red Windmill, it's the Moulin Rouge, but what about the White Horse Inn (actual name Zum Weissen Rössl) made famous by an operetta? Some companies have an offcial English name as well (Österreichische Post wants to be called Austria Post). Otehrwise, I would never ever translate such names.
