Source text - English Can nature still give us new medicines?
Penicillin came from nature and revolutionized medicine. Many other pharmaceutical companies have stopped their search for natural product quite a while ago. But now some of them are coming back.
XX has been collaborating with YY since 1993 to find natural products with promise as medicines. They may not be as revolutionary as penicillin, but something that would make a difference.
– We should not dismiss natural products too hastily. Many big pharma companies stopped their natural product programmes during the late 90’s, but there are signs that some are renewing their interest, says PP.
YY has a big collection of extracts made from plants from the rainforest and samples taken from the ocean. They could be simple lifeforms such as sponges, corals and things that live in the bottom of the sea. While the concept is attractive, so far, there isn’t a substance that has gone into the clinic from the collaboration.
– The chemistry in nature is often complicated and rather difficult to develop into oral drugs. So what we have been doing with this collaboration recently is to make it broader. We can also get research tools, where we don’t have to have the same expectations as for drugs, says PP.
A good example already started is to identify and isolate small components of natural products chemistry that could become building blocks in synthetic chemistry. The staff at YY can find these molecules and offer a selection to XX chemists who chose which chemistries they like.
– They are able to isolate those components either by taking the original natural product and degrading it or by some kind of chemical synthesis. And those building blocks can be used inside XX to build new molecules with drug-like properties, he says.
A compelling scientific philosophy is the idea that the natural would has had millions of years with chemical experimentation to evolve these small molecules along side the big molecules, the proteins in living cells.
– A lovely thought – but somehow it’s not been enough on its own. It’s a long time since the antibiotics revolution and now the pressure on delivery is high. Nevertheless the antibiotics were a true miracle which would have eluded us much longer without nature, as would some other revolutionary drugs like statins and cyclosporin, says PP.

XX samarbetar sedan 1993 med YY i jakten på naturprodukter med potential att utvecklas till läkemedel. Kanske blir de inte lika revolutionerande som penicillin, men de skulle ändå kunna få viss betydelse.
– Vi får inte vara för snabba med att avfärda naturprodukter. Flera stora läkemedelsföretag avvecklade i slutet av 90-talet sina program för framtagning av naturprodukter, men vissa tecken tyder på att en del av dem är på väg tillbaka, säger PP.
YY innehar en stor samling extrakt från regnskogsväxter och prover som tagits från havet. Det kan handla om enkla livsformer som svampar, koraller och annat som finns på havsbotten. Principen är tilltalande, men samarbetet har hittills inte resulterat i någon substans som visat sig kliniskt användbar.
– Naturens kemi är många gånger komplicerad och ganska svår att vidareutveckla till perorala läkemedel. Av den anledningen har vi på senare tid utsträckt samarbetet till nya områden. Vi kan då också få tillgång till forskningsmöjligheter där förväntningarna inte är lika upptrissade som när det gäller läkemedel, säger PP.
Ett bra exempel och en verksamhet som redan är i gång är att man kartlägger och isolerar delar av de molekyler som ingår i naturprodukter, och som skulle kunna bli till byggstenar inom synteskemin. Medarbetarna vid YY kan ta fram dessa molekyler och tillställa XX:s kemister ett urval. Dessa kan sedan välja ut de molekyler de finner lämpliga.
– De kan isolera delarna antingen genom nedbrytning av den ursprungliga naturprodukten, eller genom någon typ av kemisk syntes. Och, säger han, XX kan sedan använda de här byggstenarna för att framställa nya molekyler som har egenskaper som påminner om läkemedel.
Det är en fängslande vetenskaplig hypotes att det har tagit naturen miljontals år av kemiska experiment att utveckla dessa små molekyler jämsides med de makromolekyler som utgörs av proteinerna i levande celler.
– En underbar tanke – men den har inte riktigt kunnat stå på egna ben. Antibiotikarevolutionen ligger långt tillbaka i tiden, och trycket att få fram något nytt är starkt. Upptäckten av antibiotika som var ett sant mirakel hade gäckat oss under mycket längre tid om inte naturen kommit till vår hjälp. Detsamma gäller för andra läkemedel, som t.ex. statiner och cyklosporin, som har revolutionerat behandlingen av vissa sjukdomstillstånd, säger PP.
English to Swedish: Obligations of the Distributor
Source text - English 1. Obligations of the Distributor
1.1. The Distributor shall use its best endeavours to promote the sale of the Products and shall at all times conduct its business in accordance with the highest business standards acting diligently and in good faith and shall not perform any act which would or might reflect adversely upon the Products or the business, integrity or goodwill of the Principal.
1.2. The Distributor shall ensure that it conforms with all applicable legal requirements from time to time in force in relation to the Products.
1.3. The Distributor shall not modify, cover or erase any notices or other marks (including without limitation details of patents or notices that a trademark design or copyright relating to the Products is owned by the Principal or a third party) which the Principal may place on or affix to the Products.
1.4. The Distributor shall, for so long as this Agreement continues in force, comply with and satisfy the Distributor Qualitative Selective Criteria set out in Appendix 2 and shall allow the Principal to inspect its outlets at any time during normal business hours for the purpose of assessing whether the Distributor continues to satisfy those Criteria.
1.5. The Distributor shall display, at its own cost, visibly and strategically, the Principal’s Logo, trademark and trade name both outside and inside its premises as described in Appendix 4.
1.6. The Distributor shall employ during the term of this Agreement a sufficient number of suitably qualified staff to sell, distribute and promote the sale of the Products and perform in a timely and satisfactory manner the Distributor’s obligations under this Agreement and in particular shall create and maintain a sales force of sufficient size to fulfil the Distributor’s obligations under this Agreement in relation to the sale and marketing (including regular customer visits) of the Products.
1.7. The Distributor undertakes to employ, at its own cost, personnel who have followed the appropriate technical product and system training as provided by the Principal. The Distributor shall ensure the regular attendance of its qualified personnel at training courses organized by the Principal concerning the sales of Products.
1.8. The Distributor undertakes to provide warranty services following the procedure set out in Appendix 3.

1. Återförsäljarens skyldigheter
1.1. Återförsäljaren skall efter bästa förmåga verka för försäljning av Produkterna och skall alltid bedriva sin verksamhet i enlighet med bästa branschstandard, med skicklighet och i god tro, och skall inte företa någon handling som skulle kunna inverka negativt på Produkterna eller Huvudmannens verksamhet, integritet eller goda namn.
1.2. Återförsäljaren skall följa de krav som gällande lag vid varje tid uppställer på Produkterna.
1.3. Återförsäljaren skall inte ändra, övertäcka eller avlägsna texter eller andra kännetecken som Huvudmannen anbringar eller fäster på Produkterna, såsom, men ej begränsat till, upplysningar om patent, eller meddelanden om att en varumärkesdesign eller upphovsrätt ägs av Huvudmannen eller tredje part.
1.4. Återförsäljaren skall under Avtalets giltighetstid följa de för Återförsäljare gällande Kvalitets- och urvalskriterier som anges i Bilaga 2, och skall när som helst under normal affärstid medge inspektion av sina försäljningsställen i syfte att bedöma huruvida Återförsäljaren fortlöpande följer dessa kriterier.
1.5. Återförsäljaren skall, på egen bekostnad, synligt och på ett strategiskt sätt, exponera Huvudmannens Logo, varumärke och firmanamn, på sätt som anges i Bilaga 4.
1.6. Återförsäljaren skall under avtalstiden anställa ett tillräckligt antal personer med lämpliga kvalifikationer för att sälja, distribuera och främja försäljningen av Produkterna, och skall punktligt och på ett tillfredsställande sätt fullgöra sina skyldigheter enligt Avtalet. Återförsäljaren skall särskilt upprätta och bibehålla en säljstyrka av den storlek som krävs för att han skall kunna fullgöra sina skyldigheter enligt detta Avtal med avseende på försäljning och marknads-föring (inklusive regelbundna kundbesök) av Produkterna.
1.7. Återförsäljaren åtar sig att på egen bekostnad anställa personal som genomgått lämplig teknisk produkt- och systemutbildning som tillhandahålls av Huvudmannen. Återförsäljaren skall tillse att den personal som besitter lämpliga kvalifikationer regelbundet deltar i de kurser som tillhandahålls av Huvudmannen avseende försäljning av Produkterna.
1.8. Återförsäljaren åtar sig att, på sätt som anges i Bilaga 3, tillhandahålla garantiservice.
