Source text - English A DISMEMBERED JAR
ONE OF THE most intriguing pieces in the exhibition is a Yuan double-gourd jar, separated into two at some time in the past and now temporarily reunited in the exhibition.
The complete vase would have been similar in scale to the magnificent vase from Topkapi Saray (fig), with a total height of circa 60cm. Each piece has ended up in two unlikely and unrelated collections. The lower half is in The Victoria and Albert Museum in London, and the upper half is in The Museum of Oriental Art in Moscow, where it was long thought to be nineteenth-century Persian, on account of its later spout, handle and cover.
That they should have come together again is thanks to Anne Pollen, former Librarian of the Chinese Department at Sotheby’s in London. It was she who spotted that the lower half at the V&A, published by John Ayers, was actually part of the same vessel as the upper half in Moscow, which had appeared in a Russian publication of that museum’s collection. It is also to her credit that many years ago she made a note about this in Sotheby’s files.
When the present exhibition was envisaged, it seemed like an excellent idea to re-unite the two halves, particularly as they would be close to the famous double-gourd vase from Topkapi Saray.

Hexagonal in section, each of its sides is decorated with different combinations of floral designs. The panels are separated by pairs of vertical blue lines, and at the four corners of each panel is half of a lobed leaf pointing either up or down. Below is a horizontal band of classic scroll (Pope, Fourteenth Century…type 11) At the base of the jar is a band of lotus panels.

The only additional feature is a later brass rim engraved on the outside with cartouches depicting pairs of lions, hares and other animals, separated by quatrefoils. On the upper surface, hexagonal on the outside and circular within, and engraved between fine beaded borders, are eight roundels, decorated with a man wearing a robe over one shoulder and a crown, alternating with grapes and a female figure(?), with pairs of confronting animals between.

This section has suffered the bizarre addition of a brass spout, handle and large domed lid, which has made it impossible to see what the original design on the neck and the joint between the two pieces might have been.
The blue and white porcelain repeats the design of the lower half, with the same pairs of vertical lines dividing the panels (here concealed by the later additions) and similar brackets at the four corners.
The panels depict eight more floral sprays (from left to right starting with the spout:

6. Lotuses, with spiked lobed leaves

8. Tree peonies (?) with serrated leaves.
Again, all the flowers are on curving stems which extend the sinuous movement of those on the lower half.
The brass mounts consist of a plain base linked by narrow strips to the neck. The flaring neck has a prominent toros moulding and is surmounted by a wide rim. The large domed lid with a pointed finial is secured to the body by two chains. The spout has a brass plaque where it joins the body and terminates in a rose pierced at the centre; it has been later soldered to the body with a wire. The domed lid is hinged to the handle.
The mounts are embellished in two manners: with finely engraved decoration and by the further addition of glass or semi-precious stones.
Below the toros moulding is a Persian nastaliq inscription, partly obscured by later soldered repairs:

“It is a waqf made for His Holiness Abbas by Muhammad Ibrahim, a tinsmith, the son of Isma’il, a tinsmith. Everyone who strives for these things: The words of the God and the mighty voice of the Prophet will be encompassed by Abbas’s grace, Amen. Oh Lord of the two worlds” (trans. G.V.Lasikova)
The neck is engraved decorative motifs above and below the toros moulding, itself chased with vertical incisions. The lower lid and the rim of the neck are engraved with undulating interlocking scrolls with five-leaved motifs, which are repeated on the sides of the spout. On the body of the lid are pointed medallions, a symmetrical floral spray alternating with a bird in flight. Below the final vertical panels are each filled with a bird perched on a sinuous branch. Both the spout and the handle are further engraved with panels of zig-zag.
The hinge on top of the handle is set with a large transparent stone. The finial also has a pyramidal pink cut stone. The rose at the tip of the spout has settings for eight almond-shaped stones, of which four survive, interspersed with turquoise
Commentary
It is first necessary to note the disparity between the decoration of the brass rim of the lower half, which has no reference to the decoration below, and that of the upper half. Ibrahim, the craftsman of the upper half made a subtle interpretation of the design of the Yuan porcelain he was embellishing, by extending the curving painted designs upwards to the tip of the finial, and by taking a peony bud and using it as a basis for his five-leaved motif in the classic scrolls.
The massive domed lid is common on both porcelain and Safavid blue and white pottery converted into water vessels, and there are at least four examples of the latter in the Victoria and Albert museum. But what is unique is the extra embellishment with semi precious stones (or coloured glass) and the pride of the craftsman Muhammad Ibrahim in his achievement.
This suggests that the ewer was made for someone more important than a mere water-carrier in the streets of a Persian city.

Yorum
Öncelikle, alt yarının, aşağıdaki tasarımla hiç bir referansı olmayan pirinç çerçevesinin tasarımının, üst yarınınkiyle farklılığına dikkat etmek gereklidir. Üst yarının ustası İbrahim, süslediği Yuan porseleninin tasarımının zarif yorumunu, eğik boyalı tasarımları, tokmak şeklindeki süsün tepesine doğru uzatarak ve bir şakayık goncası alıp, bunu klasik nakışlarındaki beş yapraklı motif için bir temel olarak kullanarak yaptı.

This reference guide should be retained by the end user for future reference.
The regulator is suitable for the gas stated on the top plate and can be used with gas appliances approved for use with the same gas and at the operational pressure stated.
READ THIS REFERENCE GUIDE BEFORE COMMENCING USE
1) Connections necessary for the proper safe use of the Snap On Compact regulator
• •The Snap On Compact regulator has been produced to supply gas appliances with the inflow pressure stated on the top plate of the regulator. (fig. No 1.1)
• •The Snap On Compact regulator can be connected to all gas cylinders with self-closing valves of the same diameter as stated on the base of the regulator. (fig. No.1.2)
• The gas cylinder must always be used in a standing position.
• When the Snap On Compact regulator is used outdoors it must be suitably protected from rain.
• Never use an open flame to test for leaks; always use a soapy water solution. Soap bubbles will then indicate any gas leakage. If a leak is detected this must be eliminated before use.
• In the event of problems or faults contact your gas supplier.
• Never fill a gas cylinder with the regulator attached.
• We recommend the use of rubber gas hoses conforming to the following standard: EN 559 or BS3212
• Check that the regulator is intact and has not been damaged during transport before it is used.
• The regulator is covered by a 5 year operational guarantee. The guarantee only applies if the regulator is used correctly in accordance with this user manual and is not damaged by the user or subjected to unauthorised use.
2) Connection of the gas hose:
• Before connecting the Snap On Compact regulator to the gas cylinder the user must connect the gas hose (fig. No. 1.3) between the regulator and the gas appliance. Dip the gas hose in water before pressing it over the hose neck on the regulator. Water softens the rubber hose making it easier to attach the hose.
• To ensure a gas-tight connection a hose clamp (fig. No. 1.4) is attached and the screw is tightened.
3) Connection to the gas cylinder:
• Make sure that: - all Start/stop buttons on the gas appliance are in the stop position
- that the gas hose is correctly attached
- that the Snap On Compact regulator's handle is in the closed position
(fig. No. 1.5)
• Make the gas cylinder ready, remove any seal or top from the valve as applicable.
• Position the Snap On Compact regulator over the valve in the gas cylinder and press it down hard. When you hear a "click" the regulator is correctly connected ( fig. No. 2)
• Note: The Snap On Compact regulator is designed so that it can only be attached to the valve in the closed position. Never try to attach it in the open position.
4) Starting to use the Snap On Compact.:
• When the Snap On Compact regulator is correctly attached to the valve, the gas supply can be opened by turning the regulator handle anti-clockwise (fig. 1.5) to the open position (fig 3).
• Check that the connection between the regulator and the valve is secure; check also the connections between the regulator and the gas hose and between the gas hose and the gas appliance. Use a soap and water solution so that any gas leakages will be visible as soap bubbles. Any leakages thus found must be eliminated before the equipment can be put into use.
• The gas supply is shut off by turning the regulator handle back to the closed position.
• Note: If the handle cannot be turned to the open position this indicates that the regulator is not correctly attached to the valve. In such a case the procedure for connecting to the gas cylinder must be repeated.
5) Exchanging the gas cylinder
• Make sure that: - all Start/stop buttons on the gas appliance are in the stop position
- the Snap On Compact regulator's handle is in the closed position
• Dismantle the Snap On Compact regulator by pressing horizontally on the lower part of the regulator handle (fig No .1.6) and pulling the regulator hard upwards (fig No .4)
6) Function of optional excess flow valve
• The regulator may be equipped internally with an excess flow valve that automatically cuts the flow of gas from the regulator in the event that the gas hose to the gas appliance is broken or damaged.
• Note that the excess flow valve consists of a small ball. If the regulator is shaken the ball can be heard to rattle. This is normal and does not mean that the regulator is defective.
• The excess flow valve is activated during the following situations:
Normal operational conditions
• If the gas appliance has a larger level of gas consumption than the regulator can handle.
If the gas hose is pulled off or the hose is breached the following must be done:
• Turn the regulator handle to the closed position. Turn off the gas appliance.
• Re-connect the gas hose
• Turn the regulator handle to the open position.
• Wait around 20 seconds before restarting the gas appliance
To ensure satisfactory and safe operation the gas hose should not be longer than 1.5 metres.
Important:
The Snap On Compact regulator must never be attached to the gas cylinder if this is not connected to a gas appliance.
Before using the gas installation a thorough leakage test must be carried out using soapy water on all connections made by the user.
The regulator is not suitable for applications as per EN12864 annex D. (Onboard boats and inside caravans)

5) Gaz silindirini değiştirme

6) Seçmeli aşırı akış vanasının işlevi
• Regülatör, gaz yakan cihaza giden gaz hortumu bozulmuş ya da zarar görmüş olduğu durumda regülatörden gaz akışını otomatik olarak kesen aşırı akış vanasıyla içeriden donatılabilir.
• Aşırı akış vanasının küçük bir toptan oluştuğuna dikkat edin. Eğer regülatör sallanırsa topun tıkırdadığı duyulur. Bu normaldir ve regülatörün bozuk olduğu anlamına gelmez.
• Aşırı akış vanası aşağıdaki durumlar esnasında devreye alınır:
Normal çalışma koşulları
• Eğer gaz yakan cihaz regülatörün idare edebileceğinden daha fazla gaz tüketim seviyesine sahipse.
Eğer gaz hortumu çıkarılmışsa ya da hortum yarıksa aşağıdakiler yapılmalıdır:
• Regülatör kolunu kapalı konuma getirin. Gaz yakan cihazı kapatın.
• Gaz hortumunu tekrardan bağlayın
• Regülatör kolunu açık konuma getirin.
• Gaz yakan cihazı tekrardan çalıştırmaya başlamadan önce 20 saniye kadar bekleyin
Memnun edici ve güvenli çalışmaları garanti etmek için gaz hortumu 1.5 metreden uzun olmamalıdır.
Önemli:
Snap On Compact regülatörü, eğer gaz yakan cihaza bağlanmadıysa asla gaz silindirine takılmamalıdır.
Gaz tesisatını kullanmadan önce, kullanıcı tarafından yapılan tüm bağlantılara sabunlu su kullanarak, tam bir sızdırmazlık testi yapılmalıdır.
Regülatör, EN12864 ek D’ye göre uygulamalar için uygun değildir. (tekne güvertesinde ve karavanlar içinde)
