Source text - English CONTRAINDICATIONS. Hypersensitivity to coxafaxine hydrochloride or to any excipients in the formulation. Concomitant use in patients taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) is contraindicated. WARNINGS. Potential for interaction with Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors. Adverse reactions, some serious, have been reported in patients who were recently discontinued from an MAOI and started on coxafaxine, or who recently had coxafaxine therapy discontinued prior to initiation of a MAOI. These reactions included tremor, myoclonus, diaphoresis, nausea, vomiting, flushing, dizziness, and hyperthermia with features resembling neuroleptic malignant syndrome, seizures, and death.
PRECAUTIONS. Activation of Mania/Hypomania: Mania or hypomania has occurred during short-term depression studies. The study drug should be used cautiously in patients with a history of mania. Hyponatremia: Hyponatremia and/or the syndrome of inappropriate antidiuretic hormone secretion (SIADH) may occur with coxafaxine. This should be taken into consideration in patients who are, for example, volume-depleted, elderly, or taking diuretics.
