Source text - English Golf-Related Head Injuries Come to Fore in Kids

As the number of children taking to the links has steadily risen, so too has the number of pediatric golf-related head injuries.
Golf-related accidents were the second most common cause of sports-related injury, after bicycle use, among 2,546 patients younger than 19 years who were evaluated by neurosurgeons for any cause at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta between 1996 and 2002.
Of the 15 golf injuries, 7 were caused by golf cart accidents, seven by golf clubs, and one by a golf ball (J. Neurosurg. [Pediatrics 2] 102:163-6, 2005).
The mean age of the children in the study was 7 years, and the youngest was 9 months.
The most common injury was depressed skull fractures, which occurred in seven (47%) of the 15 cases, followed by nondisplaced skull fractures in three (20%), subarachnoid hemorrhage in two (13%), epidural hematoma in two (13%), and subdural hematoma in one (6%).
A review of the literature by the investigators found that not only are golf-related injuries increasing, but they are the leading type of sports injury in regions where golf is popular, Dr. Rahimi wrote. Augusta, where this research was conducted, is home of the Masters Golf Tournament and a hotbed of golf enthusiasm
Golf-related injuries most often involve golf clubs and balls and occur at parks and homes, rather than at golf courses.
As a way to prevent or reduce injuries, Dr. Rahimi and colleagues recommend precautionary guidelines and safety training programs, proper storage of golf clubs, adult supervision of golf-club and golf-cart use, and the requirement of a minimum legal age to drive a golf cart. In Georgia and many other states, it is illegal to drive a golf cart without a valid driver's license.

سجل عدد إصابات الرأس لدى الأطفال نتيجة ممارستهم لرياضة الجولف ارتفاعا مطردا، فيما يقبل المزيد منهم على مزاولة تلك الرياضة.
وتعد حوادث الإصابة المرتبطة بالجولف ثاني أكبر الأسباب في حدوث إصابات الملاعب بعد رياضة الدراجات لدي 2546 مريضا تقل أعمارهم عن 19 عاما ممن خضعوا للتشخيص
لأسباب مختلفة علي يد جراحي أعصاب في كلية طب جورجيا في أوغستا في الفترة بين عامي 1996 و2002.
وقد اتضح من خلال إحدى الدراسات أن 7 من أصل 15إصابة متصلة بلعبة الجولف نجمت عن حوادث لعربة الجولف، بينما تسببت المضارب المستخدمة في تلك اللعبة في سبع
إصابات أخرى مقابل إصابة واحدة بسبب كرة جولف (مجلة جراحة الأعصاب. ]طب الأطفال 2[ 102: 163-166، 2005). وقد بلغ متوسط أعمار الأطفال في تلك الدراسة سبعة أعوام، فيما كان عمر أصغرهم تسعة أشهر فقط.
وكشفت الدراسة أن أكثر الإصابات شيوعا كانت الكسور المنخسفة بالجمجمة والتي سجلت في 7 من الحالات الـ15 (47%)، يليها كسور الجمجمة غير المزاحة وسجلت في 3 حالات (20%) ثم النزف تحت الغشاء العنكبوتي وسجل لدى حالتين (13%) وكذلك الورم الدموي فوق الأم الجافية وشخص في حالتين أيضا (13%) وأخيرا الورم الدموي تحت الأم الجافية الذي أصيبت به حالة واحدة فقط (6%).
من ناحية أخرى، أكد الدكتور رحيمي أن المراجعة للمواد التي نشرها الباحثون كشفت أن الإصابات المرتبطة برياضة الجولف لم تسجل زيادة فحسب، بل أنها كانت النوع السائد من إصابات الملاعب في المناطق التي ترتفع فيها شعبية تلك اللعبة. وقد تبين أن أوغستا، التي أجري فيها هذا البحث، هي مكان إقامة دورة الجولف للأساتذة وأنها إحدى المناطق التي تشهد حماسا شديدا لممارسة هذه اللعبة.
وتتعلق في الغالب الإصابات المرتبطة بلعبة الجولف بالمضارب أو الكرات المستخدمة في ممارستها، كما تحدث عادة في المتنزهات والمنازل أكثر منها في ملاعب الجولف.
ولتفادي تلك الإصابات أو التقليل منها، ينصح الدكتور رحيمي وزملائه بإتباع إرشادات وقائية وبرامج تدريبية لضمان الأمان فضلا عن التخزين المناسب لمضارب الجولف ومراعاة إشراف بالغين على استخدام مضارب وعربات الجولف والمطالبة بحد أدنى للسن القانوني لقيادة تلك العربات. وتجرم جورجيا وعدة ولايات أخرى قيادة عربات جولف بدون رخصة قيادة صالحة.

In today’s connected society, technology is a natural – and expected – part of our daily lives. It permeates our leisure activities, business functions and everything in between. So it is obvious that innovation will be weaved through just about everything we do at Expo 2020, but what exactly will that be? Technology evolves so rapidly today, it is exciting to imagine what will be unveiled in two years’ time.
For more than a century and a half, World Expos have excited visitors by offering a glimpse of how technology will improve their lives in the future. Expo 2020 will go even further by using innovation to optimise all aspects of the six-month event, from engaging and enhancing visitors’ experience ensuring we are one of the most environmentally-friendly places in the world and creating seamless operations for participants.
Earlier this year, Expo 2020 became the first commercial customer in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia (MEASA) region to access 5G services, thanks to our partnership with Etisalat. Visitors will begin their Expo journey when they purchase tickets online. From the moment they land at Dubai International Airport, we can use the information they provide to help plan their trips to the Expo 2020 site and customise their means of transport, in conjunction with Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).
This seamless experience will continue once at Expo 2020. Advanced technology will help visitors from all over the world navigate our 4.38sqkm site and identify the pavilions, events and other exhibits that they would like to see.
With an average of 150,000 visitors expected each non-peak day, in addition to participants, volunteers and employees, Expo 2020 and its partners will use specialist simulation software to model crowd behaviour, and video analytics to monitor visitor numbers to ensure a smooth flow of people. We will also use smart technologies to get our visitors through the gates and into pavilions as quickly and efficiently as possible.
Our 30,000-plus volunteers will be equipped with the latest digital technology to enable them to provide a personalised ‘concierge’ service that will allow visitors to make the most of their time at Expo 2020.
Visitors will also be able to save time by ordering and paying for meals and drinks online via a smart phone app. By encouraging our F&B retailers to offer a diverse range of serving sizes and packaging, we can help to maximise customer choice while minimising waste.
By harnessing the power of these technologies, we hope to deliver an efficient and comfortable experience for millions of people.
