Source text - Arabic أستعيد وعيي. أشعة الشمس، المتعامدة فوقي، تستحيل فضاء أحمر داخل جفني المطبقين. خيوط سائلة تَنِزُّ من مفارق شعري الأشعث، تصنع بقعة أسفل مؤخرة رأسي. أفتح عيني ببطء قبل أن أطبقهما بشدة بفعل أشعة الشمس. وخْزُ الحصى تحت ظهري...جفاف ريقي وشفتيّ ومذاق التراب في فمي.
خدر كتفيّ وتنميل ظهري يشيان بطول مدة بقائي على حالي هذه. أمُدُّ كفّي أتحسس جيب دشداشتي الأيمن. هاتفي المحمول وعلبة سجائر فارغة. أتحسس الجيب الأيسر. شعور بالطمأنينة ينتابني لوجود مفتاح السيارة. "الصندوق ماله مفتاح"، الأغنية إياها بأصواتنا أطفالًا. ما الذي يستدعيها من أين؟ لريقي مذاقٌ غير مألوف. أكاد ابتلع شيئًا ظننته حجرًا. أبصقُ دمًا بنيًّا مثل بانٍ خلفه الهنود بصاقًا على الأرض يوم كانوا في بلادنا. أسعل ألفظ سني العالقة في حنجرتي. أصوات الأطفال في رأسي تخبو وترتفع: "المفتاح عند الحدّاد". ساقاي ممدودتان على الأرض على حالهما كأنهما لغيري. الدشداشة مرتفعة إلى ما فوق ركبتيّ. أنظر إلى قدميّ، إحداها بنعلٍ، والأخرى بلا. صورة نعلي المفقودة في مشهدها الأخير، لا تبارح مخيلتي. أستلُّ نفسًا عميقًا. أعبئ رئتيّ هواءً نتن الرائحة. أُطلِقُ آهةً طويلةً. أهزُّ رأسي. ألتفت في الساحة الترابية أتأكد من سلامة ذاكرتي. أجدني أمام حديقة جمال عبد الناصر. أطلال مطعم ماكدونالدز أمامي. حسنا...أنا في منطقتي، في الروضة. أهزُّ رأسي مطمئنا. تعاود الأصوات الغناء: "والحدّاد يبي فلوس".
سيارتي هناك، كومة خردة على عجلات، بالكاد أتعرُّف على هيئتها الجديدة، في مكانٍ ليس ببعيد عن سيارة فهد، في حين لا أجد سيارة صادق. الناس هنا كل يمضي في وجهته دونما اكتراثٍ لي، رغم ساعات أمضيتها خارج وعيي ممدّدًا على الأرض. تتشكل في مخيلتي صور لعادة كانت...ما عادت. اجتماع الناس حول ضحايا الشجارات أو الحوادث بدافع الفضول أو المساعدة أو التصوير بواسطة كاميرات هواتفهم المحمولة، أما والحالة هذه...فلا رغبة لأحد بتوريط نفسه بأي شيء. والدتي كانت دائما تقول: " من خاف سلم!". أما أمي حصة فتكره الخوافين. سَلِمَت الأولى. وماتت الأخيرة.
أنظرُ إلى حالي؛ الخوف، الناس برؤوسٍ لا تلتفت. ومع ذلك فإنَّ أحدًا في هذه البلاد، رغم الخوف لم يسلم. أُلْصِقُ باطن كفيّ على الأرض المتربة أدفع جسدي للنهوض. أعرج نحو سيارتي. ألمُ ساقي لا يحتمل. جوقة الأطفال في رأسي تغني: "والفلوس عند العروس". عروس الخليج. أتلَّفتُ حولي. لا شيء يشبهها. أهرب من تسمية قديمة. أهرب من كل شيء. أعاود النظر باتجاه سيارتي: "والعروس تبي عيال". عيال فؤادة ربما! أقول لنفسي. أواصل مشيتي العرجاء. أفتح باب السيارة شظايا زجاج النوافذ تكسو المقعد تتلألأ انعكاسًا لأشعة الشمس.
Translation - English I am regaining consciousness. Sunlight, orthogonal above me, creating a red space reflecting inside my closed eyelids. Rivers of blood coming out through my shaggy hair, creating a river mouth down the back of my head. I slowly open my eyes, before closing them again too tightly due to the sun's rays. Tingling of gravels under my back ... Dry dryness of my lips and the taste of dust in my mouth.
The numbness of my shoulder and the tingling of my back pointing me out of how long I have been like that. I reach out and feel the right pocket of my dishdasha. There are my cell phone, and an empty box of cigarettes. Then, I feel my left pocket. I had a relief when I found out that my car key is still there. "The trunk has no key", the usual song itself, being muttered out of the mouths of our children. Where is it coming from? Tasting unusual taste of my saliva, and nearly swallowed something, I thought to be a stone. Spitting brown blood like a piece of Horseradish tree, the Indians spit on the ground the time they were here in our country. I coughed up, vomiting my tooth, stuck in my throat. The children's voices in my head fade and rise: "The key is at the blacksmith." My legs are stretched out on the ground, as if they are not mine, but someone else’s. The dishdasha is raised above my knees. I look at my feet, one with a sole, while the other is bare. The view of my lost sole in its last scene is stuck in my mind. I took a deep breath, filling my lungs with stinky air, and giving a long groan. I shake my head, and looking around the dirt square, making sure my memory is intact. This moment, I found myself in front of Gamal Abdel Nasser Park. McDonald's ruins in front of me. Well, ... I'm in my neighborhood, Al Rawda. Reassured, I nod my head. The singing voices rise again: "The blacksmith wants money."
My car is there, a pile of junk standing on wheels, hardly, could I recognize its new look, not far from Fahd's car, but I cannot find Sadik's car. The First Responder Course at Hamad International Training Center taught me the basics of first aid.
It was a week-long program that enabled me to dive into the field of medicine, and taught me how to
deal with dire medical situations. I am planning to take more of these courses in the future.
Pre-College Enrichment Program (PCEP)
During the Pre-College Enrichment Program at Weill Cornell University, I experienced what Weill
Cornell is all about. I went to Weill Cornell expecting an extraordinary experience, and that’s what I
got. I especially found the Problem Based Learning sessions extremely beneficial and educational,
since it taught me how to properly research for medical issues. I also benefitted from the Lab Safety
Lecture given by Ms. Bondaruk and Ms. Oosthuysen. At the end of the program, I presented along
with my teammates our project about type 2 diabetes, which made me realize how diabetes is a
significant issue in Qatar. This has led me to make my senior project about some of the main health
issues that our community faces: obesity, diabetes, and traffic violations.

علمتني دورة تدريب المستجيب الأول التي تلقيتها في مركز حمد الدولي التدريب على المبادئ الأساسية للإسعافات الأولية. وقد مكنني هذا البرنامج الذي استمر لمدة اسبوع من الانخراط في المجال الطبي، كما علمني كيفية التعامل مع الحالات الطبية الحرجة جدًا. أهدف إلى الاستزادة من هذه الدورات التدريبية مستقبًلا.
برنامج إثراء المعرفة لمرحلة ما قبل الكلية (PCEP)
لقدد لمست من واقع تجربتي خلال برنامج إثراء المعرفة لمرحلة ما قبل الكلية (PCEP) الذي تقدمه جامعة وايل كورنيل، جوهر هذه الجامعة. فقد التحقت بوايل كورنيل آملًا في خوض تجربة استثنائية، وهذا ما حظيت به. فعلى وجه الخصوص، كانت المحاضرات التعليمية القائمة على حل المشكلات بالغة الأثر مما أثمرّ نفعًا وعلمًا؛ وذلك لأنها علمتني سُبل البحث في المسائل الطبية. كما أن محاضرات السلامة في المعامل التي ألقتاها السيدتان بوندروك وأوستويسن كانت بالغة النفع. في نهاية البرنامج، تشاركت مع زملائي في الفريق في عرض مشروعنّا الذي يتناول نوعين من مرض السكري، والذي جعلني أدرك أن مرض السكري هو من المشكلات الهامة في دولة قطر. وفي ضوء ذلك قررت أن يتناول مشروع تخرجي بعضًا من القضايا الصحية الرئيسية التي تواجه مجتمعنا منها: السمنة، ومرض السكري، وكذلك الانتهاكات المرورية.
