Hallo,
ich bin neu hier im Forum und hoffe, dass ihr mir gute Tipps geben könnt. Ich mache bald Abitur und möchte einen Teil des von meinen Eltern und Großeltern zu erwartenden Geldsegens einem Projekt spenden, das Kindern in Entwicklungsländern den Schulbesuch ermöglicht. Habt ihr eine Idee?

Hallo Alex, ich hätte da vielleicht etwas für dich. In einer entlegenen Bergregion in Nepal riskieren Kinder täglich ihr Leben auf dem Schulweg, weil sie einen reißenden Fluss in einem Korb überqueren müssen, der an einem rostigen Drahtseil hängt und von den älteren Kindern geschoben wird. Bei diesem gefährlichen Balanceakt kommt es anscheinend häufiger vor, dass eines der Kinder ins Wasser fällt und ertrinkt. Auf Facebook gibt es eine Spendenaktion zum Bau einer Brücke.

Davon habe ich auch gehört – das Projekt ist aber noch lange nicht in trockenen Tüchern. Im Zweifelsfall geht dein Spendenbeitrag also mitsamt den Kindern den Bach runter …

@Schlaumeier_80: Nicht so sarkastisch! Ist doch erst mal eine gute Idee – Alex kann sich ja informieren, wenn es ihn interessiert.
@Alex-Abitur: Eine sehr löbliche Idee von dir, dein Geld zu spenden! Auf ein paar Dinge solltest du dabei allerdings achten: Werden die Dorfbewohner in das Projekt einbezogen? Werden beim Bau der Brücke vor Ort verfügbare Materialien verwendet? Können die Bewohner die Brücke später selbst instand halten? Wurde bereits Kontakt zu Behörden oder Nichtregierungsorganisationen aufgenommen? Falls ja, sind diese Organisationen offiziell – beispielsweise von der EU – anerkannt?

Wie wäre es mit einem freiwilligen Jahr im Ausland? Dann siehst du, wo dein Geld hingeht! Ich habe nach der Schule ein Jahr in einem Kinderdorf in Südafrika obdachlose Straßenkinder unterrichtet. Das war eine große Bereicherung für mich, auch wenn ich nur einen kleinen Beitrag geleistet habe. Die EU hat eine neue Website zum Europäischen Jahr für Entwicklung mit Infos zu Partnerorganisationen und Projekten eingerichtet. Dort erfährst du, wie solche Projekte konkret ablaufen, und kannst dich inspirieren lassen!

Hello Alex, I might have something for you. In a remote mountainous region of Nepal, children risk their lives heading to school every day because they have to cross a raging river in a basket that hangs on a rusty wire rope and is pushed by the older children. In this dangerous balancing act, it seems that one of the children falls into the water and drowns. There is a fundraiser on Facebook to build a bridge.

@Alex-Abitur: A very laudable idea of you to donate your money! However, you should pay attention to a few things: Will the villagers be involved in the project? Are available materials used in the construction of the bridge on site? Can the residents maintain the bridge themselves later? Has contact with authorities or non-governmental organizations already been made? If so, are these organizations officially recognized, for example by the EU?

How about a voluntary year abroad? Then you see where your money is going! After school, I taught homeless street children in a children's village in South Africa for a year. That was a great enrichment for me, even if I made only a small contribution. The EU has set up a new website for the European Year of Development with information on partner organizations and projects. There you will learn how such projects are actually done and let yourself be inspired.

Liebe Tante Angela,
vielen Dank für das coole Geburtstagsgeschenk, das Du mir extra aus Deutschland nach Wien geschickt hast! Die neuen Sneakers sind super schön und passen genau.
Am Wochenende habe ich mit ein paar Freundinnen auch eine kleine Geburtstagsparty gefeiert. Aber leider habe ich zurzeit auch in der Schule ziemlich viel zu tun. Denn da die meisten in meiner Klasse inzwischen schon 16 sind, haben unsere Lehrer beschlossen, mit uns eine fächerübergreifende Projektwoche zum Thema Europawahl abzuhalten. (Mit 16 dürfen wir im Mai nämlich auch zum ersten Mal an der Europawahl teilnehmen – da haben wir Österreicher Euch Deutschen etwas voraus.)
Zusammen mit zwei Klassenkameradinnen bereite ich deshalb gerade ein Referat zum Thema „Europäische Identität“ vor. Bei unseren Internetrecherchen sind wir dabei natürlich zuerst auf das antike Griechenland als „Wiege Europas“ und seinen Einfluss auf die moderne Welt gestoßen, den man z. B. an Fremdwörtern wie Demokratie, Euphorie oder Polyfonie erkennen kann. Und auch das Wort Europa selbst kommt ursprünglich aus dem Griechischen!
Meine Freundin Eva beschäftigt sich aber auch mit den Einflüssen anderer Länder und Regionen, die Europa geprägt haben, und geht z. B. den arabischen Ziffern auf den Grund, die eigentlich aus Indien stammen. Je mehr wir im Internet recherchieren, umso mehr Aspekte entdecken wir, die wir eigentlich alle behandeln müssten ...
Außerdem meinte unsere Lehrerin, dass wir gerne auch von persönlichen Erfahrungen berichten können. Und da kommt mir natürlich mein Austauschjahr in den USA zugute. So kann ich z. B. davon erzählen, welche Unterschiede und Gemeinsamkeiten mir im Vergleich zum Leben hier in Österreich aufgefallen sind. Und gleichzeitig muss ich wieder an all die Dinge denken, von denen meine Mitschüler in den USA gesagt haben „Wow, that’s very European!“ – meine italienischen Schuhe zum Beispiel, oder Müsli zum Frühstück zu essen!
Und bald sind ja glücklicherweise auch Ferien. Ganz herzlichen Dank deshalb für die Einladung, mal wieder bei Euch am Bodensee vorbeizukommen! Ich freu mich schon, die Welpen zu sehen, von denen Du kürzlich am Handy erzählt hast. Auch Mom und Dad lassen Grüße ausrichten und werden sich selbst bald bei Dir melden.

Thank you very much for the cool birthday present you sent me from Germany to Vienna! The new sneakers are super nice and fit exactly.
At the weekend I also had a small birthday party with a few friends. But unfortunately I have a lot to do at school at the moment. Because most of the people in my class are now 16, our teachers have decided to hold an interdisciplinary project week with us on the subject of European elections. (At the age of 16, we are also allowed to take part in the European elections for the first time in May – we Austrians have something ahead of you Germans.)
Together with two classmates, I am preparing a presentation on the topic of
"European Identity". In our internet searches, we first came across Ancient Greece as the "cradle of Europe" and its influence on the modern world, which can be recognized, for example, by foreign words such as democracy, euphoria or polyphony. And the word Europe itself originally comes from Greek!
However, my friend Eva also deals with the influences of other countries and regions that have shaped Europe, and goes to the bottom of, for example, the Arabic numerals that actually come from India. The more we research on the Internet, the more aspects we discover that we should all deal with ...
In addition, our teacher said that we are also happy to share personal experiences. And of course my exchange year in the USA benefits me. For example, I can tell you about the differences and similarities I have noticed compared to life here in Austria. And at the same time, I have to think again about all the things that my classmates in the USA said,' "Wow, that's very European!" – my Italian shoes, for example, or cereal to eat for breakfast!
And soon, fortunately, there will also be holidays. Thank you very much for the invitation to visit lake Constance again! I'm looking forward to seeing the puppies you've been talking about recently on your phone. Mom and Dad also send greetings and will contact you soon.
