Measurements show that the decline in chlorine, resulting from an international ban on chlorine-containing manmade chemicals called chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), has resulted in about 20 percent less ozone depletion during the Antarctic winter than there was in 2005 — the first year that measurements of chlorine and ozone during the Antarctic winter were made by NASA’s Aura satellite. “We see very clearly that chlorine from CFCs is going down in the ozone hole, and that less ozone depletion is occurring because of it,” said lead author Susan Strahan, an atmospheric scientist from NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland. CFCs are long-lived chemical compounds that eventually rise into the stratosphere, where they are broken apart by the Sun’s ultraviolet radiation, releasing chlorine atoms that go on to destroy ozone molecules. Stratospheric ozone protects life on the planet by absorbing potentially harmful ultraviolet radiation that can cause skin cancer and cataracts, suppress immune systems and damage plant life. | Translation - English
توضح القياسات ان التناقص في معدلات الكلورين الناجم عن الحظر الدولي للكيماويات المصنعة بشريا والتي تحتوي على الكلورين والتي يطلق عليها كلورو فلوروكاربونات قد تتسبب في انخفاض يقارب ال20% في نسبة تآكل طبقة الأوزون اثناء الشتاء القطبي الجنوبي عما كان عليه الحال في 2005، وهي أول سنة قامت فيها ناسا ( الإدارة الوطنية للملاحة الجوية والفضاء او كما هو متعارف عليها وكالة الفضاء الامريكية) بقياسات للكلورين والاوزون في خلال الشتاء القطبي الجنوبي ، والتي تمت عن طريق القمر الصناعي Aura التابع للإدارة المذكورة . قالت المؤلفة الرئيسية سوزان ستراهان وهي عالمة متخصصة في المجال الجوي وتعمل في مركز الطيران الفضائي جودارد التابع لوكالة الفضاء الامريكية في جرين بلت في مريلاند : " إننا نرى بجلاء تام أن الكلورين الناجم عن الكلورو فلورو كاربونات يتناقص وذلك عن طريق حجم ثقب الأوزون فالتناقص في تآكل الأوزون يحدث كنتيجة لذلك"،.
تعد الكلورو فلورو كاربونات مركبات كيميائية معمرة تتصاعد في نهاية الأمرالى طبقة الستراتوسفير حيث تتفكك تحت تأثير اشعاعات الشمس الفوق بنفسجية مما يطلق ذرات الكلورين التي تبدأ في تدمير جزيئات الأوزون. تقوم طبقة الأوزون الموجودة في الستراتوسفير ) الغلاف الزمهريري ) بحماية الحياة على كوكب الأرض من خلال امتصاص الاشعاعات الفوق بنفسجية التي تحمل اضرارا محتملة وقد تسبب سرطان الجلد وحالات المياه البيضاء بالإضافة الى تثبيط الأجهزة المناعية والاضرار بالحياة النباتية كذلك.

The train was now exploring a beautiful hill country, and went twisting in and out through lovely little green valleys. There were several varieties of gum trees; among them many giants. Some of them were bodied and barked like the sycamore; some were of fantastic aspect, and reminded one of the quaint apple trees in Japanese pictures. And there was one peculiarly beautiful tree whose name and breed I did not know. The foliage seemed to consist of big bunches of pine-spines, the lower half of each bunch a rich brown or old-gold color, the upper half a most vivid and strenuous and shouting green. The effect was altogether bewitching. The tree was apparently rare. I should say that the first and last samples of it seen by us were not more than half an hour apart. There was another tree of striking aspect, a kind of pine, we were told. Its foliage was as fine as hair, apparently, and its mass sphered itself above the naked straight stem like an explosion of misty smoke. It was not a sociable sort; it did not gather in groups or couples, but each individual stood far away from its nearest neighbor. It scattered itself in this spacious and exclusive fashion about the slopes of swelling grassy great knolls, and stood in the full flood of the wonderful sunshine; and as far as you could see the tree itself you could also see the ink-black blot of its shadow on the shining green carpet at its feet. | Translation - Arabic
كان القطار الآن على مشارف استكشاف تلال ريفية جميلة المنظر وقد انطلق يتلوي متحركا داخلا وخارجا مخترقا الوديان الصغيرة ذات الخضرة الرائعة. كان هناك العديد من أنواع أشجار الصمغ التي تتضمن الكثير من الأشجار العملاقة. كان بعضها مليئا ومغطي باللحاء مثل شجر الجميز ؛وبعضها الآخر مذهل في مظهره ويذكر المرء بأشجار التفاح الغريبة في الصور اليابانية.
وكان هناك كذلك شجرة عجائبية الجمال لم اكن على علم باسمها ولا سلالتها. بدت الأوراق كأنما تكونت من حفنات كبيرة من اشواك الصنوبر حيث كان النصف الأسفل من كل حفنة منها بلون بني غني او بلون الذهب القديم، في حين يتمتع النصف العلوي بأقصي درجات الحياة والقوة و الخضرة الصارخة. كان التأثير ساحرا بالكلية و كانت تلك الشجرة فيما يبدو نادرة الوجود. يتعين على ان اذكر انه لم يفصل بين اول وآخر العينات التي رأيناها اكثر من نصف ساعة من الزمن. كان هناك شجرة أخرى ذات مظهر لافت وهي نوع من الصنوبر حسبما قيل لنا . كان ورقها يبدو رقيقا كالشعر وقد تكورت كتلتها في شكل كروي فوق الجذع المستقيم كأنما هي انفجار من الدخان الضبابي. لم تكن من النوع الاجتماعي: لم تتجمع في شكل مجموعات او ثنائيات ، ولكن وقفت كل منها منفردة وبعيدة عن تلك المجاوره لها. نثرت نفسها بهذا الشكل في فضاء واسع ومتفرد على منحدرات التلال الرابية العشبية العظيمة ووقفت في ضوء شلالات الشمس الرائعة؛ وبقدر ما امكنك ان تري الشجرة نفسها فقد كان بإمكانك ان تري كذلك البقعة السوداء في لون الحبر التي يلقيها ظلها على البساط الأخضر اللامع عند اقدامها.

لطالما كانت مجاميع النجوم مشكلة في تسميتها . إن أعطيت احداها اسما مبهرجا فلسوف يستعصي عليه ان يوفي معناه؛ وسوف يصر على الا يشابه الشئ الذي تم تسميته به. وفي النهاية، ولإرضاء الجماهير او العامة فيجب الاستغناء عن الإسم المبهرج ومنحه اسما منطقيا و اسما يصفه بوضوح. لقد ظل الدب الأكبر تحت مسمي الدب الأكبر – وهو لا يتمتع بهذا الشكل - لآلاف السنوات واستمر الناس في الشكوى بخصوص ذلك الامر كل هذا الوقت ، ولديهم الحق في ذلك. ولكن وحالما اصبح ملكية الولايات المتحده قام مجلس الشيوخ بتغيير الاسم الى المغرفة الكبرى والآن الجميع راضون عن ذلك ولا يوجد المزيد من الحديث حول شغب يخص ذلك الامر. |

يقول توينبي، المؤرخ المعروف، أن الصفة الرئيسية التي تميز المدنية عن الحياة البدائية هي الإبداع. فالحياة البدائية يسودها التقليد بينما الإبداع يسود حياة المدنية.
وحب التقليد هو الذي جعل البشر يعيشون عيشة بدائية على مدى ثلاثمئة ألف سنة تقريبا.
لقد كانوا قانعين طول هذه المدة بما ورثوا عن الآباء و الاجداد من عادات وأفكار. فلما حل الشقاء ببعضهم إثر انزياح العصر الجليدي وإنسدت في وجوههم سبل الرزق، حاروا وفكروا، وأخذوا يجهدون أذهانهم للبحث عن وسيلة جديدة، وبهذا إنفتح بين أيديهم باب التحضر الصاخب.

Toenbee, the acclaimed historian says that the main feature that distinguishes civilization from primitive life is creativity. The primitive life is ruled by imitation while creativity rules civilization.
The love of imitation is the reason humans lived a primitive life for the span of almost three hundred thousand years.
They were satisfied for all that time with what they inherited from their fathers and ancestors in the way of customs and ideas. When some of them got into misery as a result of the decline of the ice age and as the means of life got scarce and difficult, they were bewildered and thoughtful, so they started to strain their minds to find new means to live ; thus was opened in front of them the riotous door to civilization.
