تسلق قمة إيفرست
إن روح المغامرة غلبت عشرة شباب عرب، الذين استعدوا منذ 21 مارس/آذار الماضي لتسلق قمة جبل إيفرست الذي يمثّل أعلى نقطة فوق مستوى سطح البحر بارتفاع حوالي تسعة آلاف متر.
إن تغير المناخ والاحتباس الحراري يتسببان في ظهور جثث متسلقي قمة إيفرست قبل 100 عام مضت. فالثلوج والأنهار الجليدية تذوبان بسرعة أكبر على سطح قمة جبل إيفرست، وهو ما أدى لظهور جثث بعض المتسلقين الذين لقوا حتفهم أثناء الصعود أو النزول من القمة. وتوفي منذ عام 1922 أكثر من 300 متسلق، ويُعتقد أن معظم جثثهم ظلت مدفونة تحت الأنهار الجليدية أو الثلوج.
ويطلق المتسلقون على المنطقة التي يتجاوز ارتفاعها ثمانية آلاف متر اسم "المنطقة الحمراء" أو "منطقة الموت". وعند الوصول لتلك النقطة، ربما يواجه المتسلق موتا محققا في أي لحظة، سواء بسبب الانهيارات الجليدية، أو الرياح الشديدة، أو الضغط الجوي على ارتفاعات فوق ثمانية آلاف متر، وكذلك فإن مستوى الأكسجين في الهواء لا يكفي للبقاء على قيد الحياة، وهو ما يؤدي إلى تورم الرئتين والدماغ، ناهيك عن درجة الحرارة التي تصل لـ(35-) درجة مئوية.
لا يمكن مساعدة المتسلق أثناء الصعود للقمة حتى لو أدّى الأمر لوفاته، وهو ما يراه البعض تصرفاً غير إنساني. وقد يتم تركه في مكانه، ولا يساعده أحد إذ إن من يُساعده سيحكم على نفسه بالموت أيضا. لذلك سيرى من سيغامر بالصعود إلى قمة الجبل جثث المُتسلقين الذين لقوا حتفهم، والذين تحتفظ جثثهم بكامل هيئتها، كأنها مُحنطة، وكل ذلك بفضل الجليد. وتتكلف عمليات إنزال الجثث مبالغ باهظة، كما تتطلب موافقات خاصة من الحكومة النيبالية.
وتبلغ تكلفة صعود قمة إيفرست حوالي 70 ألف دولار أو أكثر، فيما تستغرق عملية صعودها شهرين كاملين.

Climbing the summit of Mount Everest
From march 21 st , 10 adrenaline junkie Arab men have prepared to summit Mount Everest , which is estimated to be roughly 9,000 meters above sea level.
For the past 100 years, global warming and climate change has caused the glaciers and snow on the summit to melt faster, leading to the deaths of many climbers. Since 1922 over 300 climbers have passed and it is said that many of the bodies were still left buried underneath the layers of snow.
The “death zone” or the "red zone" are the names given by climbers to the point of the mountain that’s altitude exceeds 8,000 meters. Climbers who have reached this point or further can die at any given
moment. The oxygen levels beyond this point are unfit for breathing and can lead to swelling in the lungs and brain and even death. Avalanches, strong winds, atmospheric pressure and temperature levels that dip below -35 degrees all contribute to the death toll.
Climbing the summit of Everest is seen as ‘inhumane’ and extremely risky to the lives of the climbers and anyone who tries to help him or her. Those who take the risk and climb the summit will see the corpses of other fallen climbers, who’s bodies are perfectly preserved
by the ice. Removal of any bodies found will cost a great deal and requires special approval from the Nepalese government.
The expedition to the summit of Everest usually takes two months and the costs incurred isroughly around $70,000 and above. |
