My professional background includes work with on-site interpretation as a bilingual support staff and as a volunteer for a traveling medical clinic in Guatemala City. Considering I studied linguistics, I adapted quickly to the Mexican dialect spoken at my support staff job and was able to interpret Spanish to English to my co-workers with ease.

In Guatemala, I interpreted as a volunteer in English to Spanish for a free eye clinic; our group traveled to a village near La Montaña, Guatemala. I was the main interpreter for the trip for our group, since no one else was bilingual on our team. I worked alongside an optometrist to test clients' vision, interpreting eye test instructions and treatment paths for more serious issues.

On a personal note, I love language and linguistics; I took three levels of French and nearly received a Portuguese minor when studying for my Bachelor's in Spanish Linguistics. Regardless of proficiency, I enjoy being able to understand and communicate in foreign languages. I am well traveled, as any linguist should be; I studied abroad in Chile, and have travelled to Colombia, Argentina, and Perú. My 6-month semester in Chile is where I became fluent and really learned syntax and colloquial phrases.

In regards to translation, I have taken university classes with a main focus on medical terms. I learned how to translate documents such as news articles, medical journals, and pamphlets. I also learned how to utilize CAT Tools: we learned from the free open-source tool OmegaT. I strive to maintain textual style and meaning, while keeping the core idea in tact regardless of the field. Dialectal meaning and language style are my top priorities when translating documents, otherwise the literature could get "lost in translation" as they say.

I also do subtitling, transcription, and captioning for Spanish works. I have experience with interviews, informational tourism videos, short films, and certain documentaries. I mainly use Aegisub to aid me during my work.
