Bio

I have always been captivated by learning languages. Appreciating a culture and its language allows a culture to demonstrate its value to the global community. It has been shown that this community fueled by international trade will only continue to flourish. The Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) is an excellent example of this phenomenon.

My expertise in languages is my principal asset that I would bring to the position of Translator. This experience has taught me that the spirit of what is being translated must be entrenched with the required translating technical skill. I have the linguistic proficiency to bridge the gap between cultures.

I obtained relevant linguistic experience working as an Educational Assistant at Norquest College, where I interpreted Spanish into English. My interpreting skills enabled the Social Workers to provide settlement services. The Spanish speaking clients we served came from many unique socio-economic and regional backgrounds, so I needed to adapt my interpreting skills to be culturally sensitive.

As a volunteer I went to Ensenada, México for ten days in the summer of 2008, to act as a Spanish to English language consecutive interpreter. The group which went to México was divided into two sections. The first group operated a Children’s Program, the second group built houses for disadvantaged Méxican families. My role was to assist the first group. I interpreted the Home Presentation Ceremony at the end of our time in México. I also interpreted a one-hour sermon without any preparation.

Thank you for your consideration of my application. I anticipate your reply, and to communicating with you to further discuss my qualifications.

Sincerely,

Gary Martinson
