- The competition is open to all artists from around the world.
- Artists must be aged 18 years or over as of 1 January 2017.
- A non-refundable fee of £40.00 is charged to enter. This fee covers administration costs and can be paid on the Gallery’s website only.
- To be eligible for the BP Young Artist Award, artists must be 30 years of age or under as of 1 January 2017.
- The competition is limited to one entry per artist. The work must have been completed after 1 January 2016.
- No work previously submitted for the competition is eligible for resubmission.
- On receipt of the registration and entry fee, a confirmation email will be sent to the artist.
- Entry forms and payment of entry fees must be completed by 23.59 on Thursday 26 January 2017.
- All correspondence with artists will be via email unless specifically requested otherwise.
- All entrants will be notified if their work has been selected for the second round of judging by 16 February 2017. If the artist is selected they will be required to send their physical work to the judging venue between the 6 and 10 March 2017.
- Those artists who were selected for the second round of judging will be notified if their work is selected, or not, for exhibition by 16 March 2017. Artists who have not been selected should make arrangements for the collection of their work. It is the artist’s responsibility to contact the National Portrait Gallery if s/he has not received notification by that date.
- The exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery will be open to the public from 22 June to 24 September 2017. Those shortlisted for prizes must attend the Awards Ceremony and dinner on the evening of Tuesday 20 June 2017 and are also expected to attend the Press View on the morning of Wednesday 21 June 2017.
- All exhibiting artists will be invited to the Private View on the evening of Wednesday 21 June 2017.
- Works selected for exhibition cannot be removed before the end of the exhibition tour. All exhibited works will be available for collection in London at the end of the tour.
- The copyright for all works exhibited in the BP Portrait Award and Travel Award will remain the property of the artist, but it is a condition of entry that the artist or their representatives agree unconditionally that the National Portrait Gallery may reproduce any exhibited works, free of charge, for the purposes of marketing, promotion, merchandise, discussion and education in direct connection with the BP Portrait Award and Travel Award exhibition and tour, in all media worldwide including the exhibition catalogue and subsequent publications, posters, prints, postcards, the internet and within television documentaries, and may license these specific, limited rights to others only for the same purposes. The Gallery also reserves the right to reproduce selected images free of charge for core non-commercial purposes, for example in the Past Exhibitions page of the Gallery website, indefinitely, as a public record.
- It is also a condition on entering the competition that the artist agrees that visitors to the Gallery are permitted to take photographs of their work for personal, non-commercial use during the run of the exhibition. The Gallery will install notices indicating that photography is permitted provided it is for personal, non-commercial use but will not be responsible if any images of the work taken are exploited commercially. The responsibility for damage or loss, however caused, is the responsibility of the artist. Artists are therefore advised to arrange adequate insurance cover against such risks. The sponsor, the carriers, the judging venue, the touring venues, any other subcontractor or the National Portrait Gallery shall not be liable for any loss or damage, whether or not caused by their negligence. In accordance with the Data Protection Act, 1998, the National Portrait Gallery will hold all personal data securely. It will only be used in the process of administering the Portrait Award, and will not be transferred to any third party. At the close of the Award, it will be retained permanently for historical research purposes in the Gallery’s Archive (in accordance with Part IV, 33 of the Act).
- Those not eligible for entry are employees of the National Portrait Gallery, BP, and their agents, the winner of the Travel Award 2016 and previous first prize-winners of the Portrait Award since 1980.
- The judges reserve the right not to award the commission to the winning artist.
- If awarded, the commissioned painting will be submitted to the Gallery’s Trustees for approval of its inclusion in the National Portrait Gallery’s permanent Collection.
- The winning artist will be required to assign the copyright in the commissioned portrait to the National Portrait Gallery.
- The decision of the judges is final and no correspondence can be entered into. Artists should be aware that all works are judged on an equal and anonymous basis and that there is no segregated judging by region or country.
- The National Portrait Gallery reserves the right to disqualify any piece of work if the artist has not adhered to the rules, even if the work has been selected for exhibition.

- Todos los artistas del mundo pueden participar en el concurso.
- Los artistas deben tener 18 años o más, a fecha de 1 de enero de 2017.
- Para participar se tienen que pagar 40 libras esterlinas (alrededor de 48 euros) en concepto de inscripción, que no son reembolsables. Este pago cubre los costes de administración y se puede efectuar solo a través del sitio web de la Galería.
- Para ser elegible en el Premio BP de Jóvenes Artistas, los artistas deben tener 30 años o menos, el 1 de enero de 2017.
- El concurso se limita a una inscripción por artista. La obra debe haberse completado después del 1 de enero de 2016.
- No se puede volver a presentar ninguna obra que, con anterioridad, se haya presentado para el concurso.
- Se enviará un correo electrónico de confirmación al artista cuando se reciba la inscripción y el pago de la misma.

- A todos los participantes se les notificará si su obra se ha seleccionado para una segunda vuelta antes del 16 de febrero de 2017. Si el artista es seleccionado, se le requerirá que envíe su obra físicamente al lugar donde se van a evaluar todas las obras entre el 6 y el 10 de marzo de 2017.
- A aquellos artistas que se les seleccione para la segunda vuelta, se les notificará si su obra se ha seleccionado, o no, para la exposición antes del 16 de marzo de 2017. Los artistas que no hayan sido seleccionados deberán organizar la recogida de su obra. El/La artista es responsable de contactar con la National Portrait Gallery (Galería Nacional del Retrato) si no ha recibido ninguna notificación en esa fecha.
- La exposición en la Galería se abrirá al público del 22 de junio al 24 de septiembre de 2017. Aquellos artistas preseleccionados deben asistir a la ceremonia de entrega de los premios y a la cena de la noche del martes, 20 de junio de 2017, y además, se espera que asistan a la visita de la prensa que se celebrará el miércoles, 21 de junio de 2017 por la mañana.
- A todos los artistas que exponen se les invitará a una visita privada la tarde-noche del miércoles 21 de junio de 2017.
- Las obras seleccionadas no se pueden retirar antes de que termine la gira de la exposición. Todas las obras estarán disponibles en Londres para su recogida, al final de la misma.
- Los derechos de autor de las obras que se exhiban en el Premio BP de Retrato y el Premio de Viaje serán propiedad del artista, pero es requisito de inscripción que el artista o su representante estén de acuerdo, de forma incondicional, en que la National Portrait Gallery pueda reproducir cualquiera de las obras expuestas, libre de todo cargo, con fines de marketing, promoción, mercadería, debates y educación en conexión directa con la exposición y la gira del Premio BP de Retrato y el Premio de Viaje, en todos los medios de comunicación globales entre los que se incluyen: el catálogo de la exposición y las publicaciones posteriores, los carteles, los grabados, las postales, los documentales en Internet y en la TV, y que además, pueda dar una licencia para el uso de estos derechos limitados y específicos a otros, solo para el mismo fin. Al mismo tiempo, la Galería se reserva el derecho de reproducir las imágenes seleccionadas, libres de cargo, para fines no comerciales importantes, por ejemplo, para la página Exposiciones Anteriores dentro del sitio web de la Galería como forma de mantener un registro público, de manera indefinida.
- Además para inscribirse en el concurso el artista tiene que estar de acuerdo con que los visitantes de la Galería puedan hacer fotografías de su obra, para uso personal y no comercial, durante el tiempo que esté abierta la exposición. La Galería colocará avisos para indicar que se permite hacer fotografías si son para uso personal y no comercial, pero no será responsable en el caso de que alguna de esas fotografías se explote de manera comercial. La responsabilidad por daño o pérdida, con independencia de su causa, recae sobre el artista. Por lo tanto, se aconseja a los artistas tener un seguro con una cobertura apropiada en relación con esos riesgos. El patrocinador, los transportistas, el lugar donde se valoran las obras, los lugares de la gira, cualquier otro subcontratista o la National Portrait Gallery no se responsabilizarán de la pérdida o el daño producido, con independencia de que se haya ocasionado o no por su negligencia. De acuerdo con la Ley de Protección de Datos de 1998, la Galería conservará todos los datos personales de forma segura. Solo se podrán utilizar durante el proceso de administración del Premio BP de Retrato, y no se transferirán a una tercera persona. Al cierre del premio, se mantendrán de forma permanente con el fin de tener un histórico de información en el archivo de la Galería (de acuerdo con el título IV, 33 de la mencionada ley).
- No pueden inscribirse: los empleados de la National Portrait Gallery, los de la compañía BP y sus agentes, el ganador del Premio de Viaje en 2016 y los ganadores del primer premio del Premio BP de Retrato desde 1980.
- Los jueces se reservan el derecho a no conceder el encargo al artista ganador.
- Si se concediera el encargo, el cuadro encargado se entregaría a los fideicomisarios de la Galería para que aprobaran su inclusión en su colección permanente.
- Al artista ganador se le requerirá que asigne los derechos de autor del cuadro encargado a la National Portrait Gallery .
- La decisión de los jueces es irrevocable y no se puede mantener comunicación alguna sobre el tema. Los artistas deben ser conscientes de que todas las obras se juzgan sobre la base de la igualdad y el anonimato, y que no hay una valoración segregada de acuerdo a la región o al país.
- La National Portrait Gallery se reserva el derecho a descalificar cualquier obra si el artista no ha cumplido las normas, incluso en el caso de que la obra se haya seleccionado para la exposición.

To edit the graph inserted in the slide
1. Double click on the chart and it will be opened in another window. Options are available to edit the graph elements.
2. Select the element you want to edit and with a right click, select option Format.
Change chart type for defined line of data
1. Double click on chart inside the slide to make options for editing chart available.
2. With a right click on chart, select Chart type and from the dialog box select the new chart.
Change gap, overlap between columns on graph
1. Double click on chart inside the slide to make options for editing the chart available.
2. Mark the columns on your chart and with a right click, select Format Data Series. In the opened dialogbox, find Options card to define spacing and overlap.
Change the scale of values on axis: minimum, maximum number to show, main interval between numbers on graph
1. Double click on the chart inside the slide to make options for editing the chart available.
2. Mark the axis on the chart and with a right click, select Format Axis.
3. In Scale, you can now define minimum and maximum numbers to be displayed on axis and the major interval.
