Source text - English A happy person, fulfilled in their connection to their friends, family, and community and in the expression of their vocation, is likely to be useful and productive in their life and to help weave the collective fabric of a functional society. What else should a society need from education other than the happiness of its people? What else should we demand for our children other than their happiness?
Perhaps we are a little afraid of happiness. We were educated from that state long ago, molded into a set of skills and a catalog of information. Our education was not to fulfill us, but to fulfill the needs of productivity in the marketplace. But children are born knowing all about the creative life, and fortunately, creativ¬ity is hereditary—we can easily inherit it from our children!
Translation - Hindi एक ख़ुशहाल व्यक्ति , अपने मित्रों, परिवार और समुदाय के साथ संबंध एवं अपनी जीवनवृत्ति की अनुभूति में परिपूर्ण, उनके जीवन में बहुत ही उपयोगी और उत्पादक साबित हो सकता है और क्रियाशील समाज का तानाबाना बुनने में सहायक सिद्ध हो सकता है। अपने लोगों की ख़ुशहाली के अलावा समाज को शिक्षा से और दूसरी क्या अपेक्षा रखनी चाहिए ? हमें अपने बच्चों के लिए उनकी ख़ुशी के अलावा और क्या चाहिए ?
शायद हम सब ख़ुशी से थोडे़-से भयभीत हैं। हम दरअसल राज्य के उस पुराने ढाँचे में शिक्षित हुए हैं जहाँ हमें तयशुदा कौशल और जानकारियों के पुलिंदों में ढाल दिया गया है। जो शिक्षा हमें अब तक मिलती रही वह हमें अपने को परिपूर्ण बनाने के लिए नहीं बल्कि बाज़ार की उत्पादकता की आवश्यकता की पूर्ति के लिए थी। लेकिन बच्चे रचनात्मक जीवन को जानने के लिए पैदा होते हैं और संयोग से, चूँकि रचनात्मकता अनुवांशिक होती है, हम इसे आसानी से अपने बच्चों से ग्रहण कर सकते हैं !

Source text - English All this happened in the seventies, though in that town and other small towns like it the seventies were not as we picture them now, or as I had known them even in Vancouver. The boys’ hair was longer than it had been, but not straggling down their backs, and there didn’t seem to be an unusual amount of liberation and defiance in the air.
We see the lack of defiance very early. Our narrator is reflecting on when, as a young girl, she was sent to live with her aunt and uncle. Her parents, Unitarians, liberal thinkers, took off to do good works in Ghana, leaving their heretofore free-thinking daughter with domineering Uncle Jasper and ultra-submissive Aunt Dawn.
Translation - Hindi यह सब सत्तर के दशक की बात है. हालाँकि उस शहर और उसके जैसे कई दूसरे शहरों में सत्तर का वह समय वैसा नहीं था जैसी हम आज कल्पना करते हैं या फिर वेन्क्यूअर में रहते हुए मैं उस समय सोचा करती थी. लड़कों के बाल पहले से कुछ ज़्यादा लम्बे होने लगे थे हालाँकि इतने भी नहीं कि पीठ पर लहराते दिखें. माहौल में ज़्यादा खुलापन या बेपरवाही भी दिखाई नहीं देते थे.
बेपरवाही की यह कमी आगे बहुत जल्दी हमें देखने को मिलने वाली है. हमारी किस्सागो उस समय को याद करती है जब वह एक छोटी बच्ची थी और उसे अपने चाचा-चाची के यहाँ रहने के लिए भेज दिया गया था. एक ईश्वर को मानने वाले उसके उदार माँ-बाप एक बेहतर रोज़गार की तलाश में अपनी अब तक आज़ाद ख्याल रही बेटी को उसके दबंग किस्म के चाचा जैस्पर और अति-आज्ञाकारी चाची डान के यहाँ छोड़कर घाना चले गए थे.

Source text - English Mining activity consists of a number of operations that are a source of noise. Noise from blasting is of high intensity but momentary while noise from mechanical equipment is lower in intensity but continuous. Blasting for removal of overburden will be carried out during the day time only so there is no disturbance at night due to blasting. Surface miner will be used to excavate coal. The noise levels will be low because the walls of the mine pit act as a barrier. Studies have shown that wild animals get partially accustomed to disturbances over a period of time. It is difficult to predict the level of acclimatization.
Translation - Hindi खनन कार्य में कई तरह की गतिविधियाँ सम्मिलित होती हैं जो ध्वनि प्रदूषण का स्रोत होती हैं। विस्फोट के कारण उत्पन्न होने वाली ध्वनि बहुत अधिक तीव्रता की होती है लेकिन यह कुछ ही क्षणों के लिए होती है वहीं मशीनी उपकरणों के कारण पैदा होने वाली ध्वनि कम तीव्रता की लेकिन निरंतर होती है। ऊपरी संस्तर को हटाने के लिए किया जाने वाले विस्फोट सामान्यतः सिर्फ दिन के समय किया जाएगा ताकि विस्फोट के कारण रात के समय किसी प्रकार का व्यवधान न हो। कोयले के उत्खनन के लिए सर्फेस माइनर का उपयोग किया जाएगा। खंदकों की दीवारों द्वारा ध्वनि का मार्ग अवरुद्ध होने से ध्वनि का स्तर भी कम होगा। अध्ययन बताते हैं कि एक समय के बाद वन्य जीव आंशिक रूप से इन व्यवधानों के आदि हो जाते हैं। अनुकूलन के स्तर का पूर्वानुमान लगाना मुश्किल है।
