Bio
Technical translation of German to English and Russian to English. Experi-
ence in desktop publishing. Since April 1993, I have been known to virtually
all members of the American Translators Association as the editor of the
Translation Inquirer column, perhaps the most popular column to appear in
ATA's monthly Chronicle. Nominated in January 1999 by American Trans-
lators Association for the world prize (Aurora Borealis prize) in non-fiction
translation, which was to be awarded at the triannual conference of FIT in
Mons, Belgium in August 1999.

Nearly 17 years of technical indexing at the Technical Information Services
division of the American Institute of Aeronautics & Astronautics, with some
free-lance translation during that time. Since January 1990, I have been
full-time freelance doing business as Languages of Montour in Montour
County, Pennsylvania. Patents, aerospace, medical equipment, automotive
and transportation are the main areas. Publications: volume II of Early
American Railroads by Franz Anton von Gerstner (1793-1840), published
in the spring of 1997 by Stanford University Press. Also, Languages of Mon-
tour Press published biographies of Pavel Melnikov in 1995, Franz Anton
von Gerstner in 1997. To appear in October 1999: translation of History of
Rail Transportation of Russia 1836-1917, published in 1994 in Russian by
members of the St. Petersburg State Transportation University faculty.
