English to Portuguese: A Short Introduction to Renaissance Music

The word “renaissance” means “rebirth” and refers to the interest in reviving ancient Greek and Roman classicism in literature and the visual arts that characterized the 15th and 16th centuries. During this period, the musical “renaissance” took shape largely in the development of vocal polyphony. Later, printing of music and handbooks on how to play instruments helped to make music performance available more widely than ever before. During the last third of the 16th century, certain Italian scholars began to translate ancient Greek treatises on music and try to apply the ideas they found in them to the composition of music. By the late 16th and early 17th century, these attempts had a major influence on the development of monody and early opera in the birthplace of the Italian Renaissance – Florence. | Translation - Portuguese
A palavra “renaissance” significa “renascimento” e refere-se ao interesse em reviver o antigo classicismo grego e romano na literatura e nas artes visuais que caracterizaram os séculos XV e XVI. Durante este período, o “renascimento” musical ganhou forma principalmente no desenvolvimento da polifonia vocal. Posteriormente, a impressão de músicas e manuais sobre como tocar instrumentos ajudou a tornar as apresentações musicais mais disponíveis, e de forma mais ampla, do que nunca. Durante o último terço do século XVI, alguns estudiosos italianos começaram a traduzir antigos tratados gregos sobre a música e tentaram aplicar as ideias que eles descobriram neles à composição de músicas. No final do século XVI e início do século XVII, estas tentativas tiveram grande influência no desenvolvimento da monodia e no início da ópera no local de origem do Renascimento italiano – Florença. |
