Working as a freelance translator was probably the “natural” thing for me to do: I have been living in-between cultures for most part of my adult life, and shifting effortlessly between languages and registers has become a second nature.
I was trained as a sociologist and I have a post-graduate degree in social anthropology. Although my working languages are English, Spanish and Greek, I speak several European languages to varying degrees of fluency, and I still enjoy spending all my extra time (and money) on traveling, learning languages and exploring new cultures. I am fascinated by the subtleties of language and by the way geography, social status and profession create rich variations on national parlance. I love discovering new idiomatic expressions and listening to new accents!
I am an avid reader, usually in the middle of several books at once, in several languages, philosophy and fiction, technical and humanistic, whatever comes my way.
I pride myself in my work and I enjoy taking on challenging texts and finding creative solutions. Nevertheless, I try to be honest when I am out of my depth.
I am also a confident interpreter, since I have been volunteering as cultural mediator for many years, I have held trilingual customer service jobs, and I have participated in a multitude of congresses and meetings, both as a guest and as an interpreter.
