Recent discoveries in the Hajar mountains have revealed that man has been present in the Emirates for more than ten thousand years, since the Middle and Late Paleolithic period. Before these archeological finds, the earliest known human occupation, for which there is substantial evidence, dated from the Neolithic period, 7500 years ago (5500 BC) when the climate was more temperate. The early inhabitants of the region were most likely nomadic cattle herders.
Ceramics from Ubaid dating to 5000 BC have been found at Ras Al Khaimah (Julfar).

كشفت دراسات حديثة في جبل حجار عن آثار تشير إلى وجود الإنسان في الإمارات لأكثر من عشرة ألاف سنة، وذلك منذ منتصف وأواخر العصر الحجري القديم. وقبل تلك الاكتشافات الأثرية، أرخ أقدم وجود بشري معروف ، والمتوفر بالأدلة المادية ، من العصر الحجري الحديث، وذلك منذ 7500 سنة (5500 قبل الميلاد) عندما كان المناخ أكثر اعتدالا. وعلى الأرجح، فإن سكان المنطقة كانوا من رعاة الماشية الرحل. وقد عثر على أثار من السيراميك تعود إلى عصر العبيد في مدينة رأس الخيمة (جلفار قديما)، ويرجع تاريخها إلى 5000 سنة قبل الميلاد.

Translation - English Message of the Chancellor
Sharjah University is a leading academic institution in the field of higher education. It constantly contributes in supporting and developing both private and public sectors within the country and beyond. The University of Sharjah is a comprehensive university, established due to the vision of His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council, Ruler of Sharjah and Supreme President of the University of Sharjah. That vision has enabled the University to make great strides – within a mere decade – towards implementing and fulfilling its cultural message through its various academic programs and its integrated professional services for all segments of society.
