وقفتُ مرّة بباب مكتبة أتأمّل معروضاتها، فأخت عيني كتيّباً صغيراً يعلّم الأجانب اللغة العربيّة بلا معلّم. فراعتني هذه الجرأة، وتمثّل خاطري ما يكابده الأساتذة من العناء في تدريس هذه اللغة، بل ما نعانيه نحن الذين نزعم أنفسنا أدباء وشعراء من الجهد. ولا أطيل. أشتريت الكتاب بثمنٍ غالٍ ثم انتحيت ركناً في قهوة ورحت أقلّبه فإذا هو لا أكثر من ألفاظ ومحادثات باللغة الإنجليزيّة وما يقابلها باللغة العربية. فتحسّرت على ما بذلت فيه وساءلت نفسي ماذا أصنع به؟ كيف أعوّض خسارتي؟		Translation - English
I was once standing by the door of a bookshop browsing its display. My eye was caught by a small booklet purporting to teach foreigners the Arabic language 'without a teacher'. The boldness of it struck me as I considered the burdens endured by teachers of this language, not to mention the effort we self-proclaimed writers and poets 'suffer' on it. But let us not dwell on this. I purchased the book at an inflated price and then settled in a corner of a coffeeshop and began to leaf through the pages. Lo and behold the book was nothing more than English expressions and phrases and their Arabic equivalents! I became aggrieved over the money I spent on it and asked myself, 'Whatever shall I do with this book? And how can I make up for my loss?'

Graduated from Cambridge University, I am fluent in English and Arabic. In the course of my Middle Eastern Studies degree I gained expertise in translation technique and the grammar systems of literary Arabic while at the same time taking maximum courses in translation theory and technique. I translate at a steady, productive pace, while paying close attention to both the detail and ‘spirit’ of the source text - thus guaranteeing a prompt and reliable translation. I am free to work flexible hours and always ensure my availability to clients for directives or adjustments.
