A promoção da Saúde Oral é um domínio prioritário do XVII Governo Constitucional, que, em 2008, se centra na prevenção e tratamento da doença, de modo a que alguns segmentos da população mais vulneráveis, em especial as crianças, grávidas e idosos com baixos rendimentos, tenham bons níveis de saúde oral.
Assim, o Ministério da Saúde decidiu desenvolver projectos que têm por objectivo garantir o acesso daqueles grupos à medicina dentária, os quais podem ser imediatamente implementados, uma vez que existem em Portugal recursos humanos e capacidade instalada em infra-estruturas, quer em quantidade como em qualidade.

The promotion of oral health is a priority for the XVII Constitutional Government that, in 2008, will focus on illness prevention and treatment so that some of the most vulnerable citizens, especially children, pregnant women and seniors on low income, have a good level of oral health.
Therefore, the Ministry of Health has decided to develop projects with the purpose of guaranteeing that these groups can access dental care. These projects can be implemented immediately, given that in Portugal there are sufficient qualified human resources and infrastructures.
