I have a master's degree in Anthropology, and a dual bachelor's in Philosophy and Anthropology, and I've been translating since 2009 as a freelance translator. I've worked (and continue to work) with translation agencies on various projects, including marketing, academic, and medical translations. I also have years of experience in construction.

Basically, I have an academic background, as well as a business background. I can generally handle academic translations within social sciences and related fields (of course, depending on the complexity of the text and subject-matter) as well as standard marketing translations. I have experience with medical translations, but my capacity to translate these, too, depends on their complexity. If I have any doubt about my ability to translate a document, I won't do it.
