Hi, my name is Rachel Trofa. I was born and educated in the UK, and moved to Japan after completing my Bachelor's Degree in Japanese Studies at the University of Sheffield. I also completed a one-year study abroad program at Seijo University in Tokyo. I have lived in Japan for coming up to ten years, with experience living in Okinawa, Kyushu, and Osaka, before finally settling here in Tokyo.
I am currently a full-time Japanese to English translator, specialized in the finance field, specifically securities and equity research. After receiving extensive training and guidance from senior translators at my company, I have been entrusted with checking/reviewing my own work. I predominantly translate analyst reports on major Japanese companies listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange. As such, I also need to have a solid understanding of the businesses/industries of the companies covered, which includes but is not limited to the automotive, pharmaceutical, real estate, REIT, game, insurance, leasing, food, telecommunication, and energy industries.
In addition to my current field, I also have professional translation experience in the manufacturing industry, where I translated both internal documents and external materials for a major bearings manufacturer.
I also have a wealth of freelance experience covering a broad range of subjects and formats, such as e-comics, leaflets, websites, business materials, manuals, and legal documents.
Given the nature of my job and the sensitivity of the information provided, speed and accuracy are of upmost importance. I am thus confident in my ability to work under pressure and keep to tight deadlines, while also maintaining a high level of quality.
