Bio
I've been in the translation field for more than 33 years now, with my initial 15 years as a qualified Legal Translator with prominent Law Firms in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. I hold a Certificate in Court Interpretation (University Malaya).
Wanting to explore further, I ventured into freelancing and found many happy and returning clients. I also pursued my degree and obtained B.A (Hons) in English from Universiti Putra Malaysia, did some editing, authoring and teaching of English Language for about 6 years before accepting the exciting role of Localization Quality Manager for Malay with Expedia, Inc. I grew with the Localization Team of Expedia for 5.5 years before deciding to take a career break to complete my M.A. (Translation Studies) at Universiti Sains Malaysia.
I also completed my Level 7 Diploma in TESOL (UK) to qualify myself as a full-fledged English language teacher, just before my next contractual role as Brand Transcreator with Oliver UK for adidas. This 1-year role not only exposed me to transcreation but also enhanced me further in localization and copywriting. I had an excellent year of establishing relations with a new market in Malaysia and a wonderful project management team in Amsterdam.
I then returned to freelancing shortly before I was offered the opportunity to serve as Malaysian Language Manager for 1 year with Canva, an Australian global multi-national graphic design platform. Needless to say, this was again, a different ball-game altogether with super exciting days that involved being creative without compromising quality and keeping within cultural limitations along with in providing country, cultural and language-based insights.
I am now back to freelancing and looking to write my first book on my experience in this field that opens me up to wonderful opportunities.
While I don't restrict venturing into new areas, my main areas of interest include, among others, Law, Medicine, Tourism & Hospitality, Business Management, Marketing and Education.
I'm also a Lifetime Member of the Malaysian Translators' Association.
