Translation - English A 56 years old male patient, with a significant history of osteoarthritis developed bilateral ankle edema in April, 2011 and started aspirin treatment three months after starting an intravenous therapy. His growing difficulties to support weight led to radiological examinations and the identification of bone fractures in his left tibia and fibula and in his right second metatarsal on October 9th, 2011.
The increase of the aspirin's calcium excretion through the kidneys, combined with the patient's apparent sedentary lifestyle may have contributed to the weakening of the bone density and the development of the described fractures. After revising the data, no other case of fracture of superior or inferior extremities has been found to be causally related to the new drug.
