This is the type of card used for multiple trips, used by buses, trams even flights. Also used in gyms etc but I need a suitable translation for a travel card. Any ideas?

If you frequently travel to one destination or within the same number of zones, it may be a good idea to buy a travel card (månedskort/periodekort) or a discount card (klippekort). The smartest buy depends on how frequently you travel.
A travel card entitles you to travel as many times you like within the number of zones for which you have bought your travel card, for as long as the card is valid.
Discount cards are valid for 10 journeys within a specified number of zones. You pay less per journey using a discount card than with a single ticket. When travelling with a discount card you must punch the card at the beginning of your journey. Punching machines are situated on stations where you enter the platform.

In the greater Copenhagen region, the zone system is complemented by a system of “klippekort”, punch cards. These cards come in a variety of colors where the color signifies the total number of zones one can travel through for each punch. So a two zone card punched once allows one an hour of travel throughout two zones. A two zone card punched twice in the same machine is valid for travel in four zones or from the airport at Kastrup to the main train station in Copenhagen. DSB also uses a similar system of klippekort/punch cards for travel in the Oresund region.
To use a klippekort/punch card, you insert the card, face up, into the yellow machine on the train platform. You will hear a clunk as a punch discard is removed from card. Repeat to add zones. The machine will also have a zone map and a guide to explain how many punches it takes to travel from where you are to where you want to go. Most regions have their own klippekort but they do not work between regions. Some of the long distance bus companies offer klippekort that are valid for a specific route across regions but these are probably of little use for travelers as they have to be bought on cards of 10 punches(trips).

agree  Charlesp: that works. But actually they are clipped, hence the name "clip card" and not punched. How about calling it a "clip card" ?

disagree  Deane Goltermann: Don't trust those Dane! ;-) Discount card is ok, I like the idea of 'clippies', but a punch card is what you used at the factory when starting and ending work, and what computer geeks used in the 60's and 70's to enter data into old fashioned main frames

I would translate it as a "multiple ride card" -- as that is what is it.

A "punch card" is often what it is called, in colloquial language. And if the text otherwise described it (eg it was a litterary text), that would work. But not only are they not always "punched" (actually they are clipped, hence the name "clip card" and not punched) but it leaves open the question: "A punch card for what?"

As an alternative, it could be called a "multiclip card" -- as that is more accurate and specific (than "punch card").
