Till exempel medverka i en hel säsong av ”Så mycket bättre” – ett lördagsmysprogram som de flesta rapfans inte skulle ta i med tång.

saturday night snoozefest? soft-focus show on saturday night?

I've seen it, I've watched it, but words cannot describe it!

Saturday night family entertainment
Explanation:
It's hard to come up with one word or phrase to describe this very Swedish phenomenon.

'Snoozefest' would be wrong since it's usually not boring, to most people at least :)

It's something cozy and nice, slightly cheesy, that you usually watch together with friends or family.

Saturday evening pre-watershed/safe harbor show

Explanation:
Having looked at the programme in question,"Så mycket bättre", it appears to be one of those typical celebrity come reality come music shows that have become the norm over the years. Easy on the eye, easy viewing, that kind of thing, along the lines of Celebrity X-Factor or Celebrity Fame Academy in the UK.

TV programmes that are suitable for all viewers, aka "family friendly", are referred to as pre-watershed in the UK, the watershed cut-off typically being around 9pm when more "adult" entertainment may be broadcast. I understand this is referred to as "safe harbor" in the USA, the cut off point being 10pm.

"feel-good" entertainment

Explanation:
I am not certain, because I have seen this is in several contexts, and it is not the "feel virtuouos" type, but the relaxing, "Maybe there is hope for the world after all" type, as an an antidote to all the crime, blood and guts that may come later on Saturday evenings.
(And we see quite a lot of Swedish TV over here too!)

neutral  trsk2000 (X): the sentiment is there, absolutely, this kind of programme has the feel-good factor - just need to convey the Saturday evening element somehow

-> So Saturday evening feel-good entertainment - after all, you can´t get it ´all-in-one-complex-word´ in English as in German and Scandinavian languages :-)
